I'm interested in seeing some pictures and opinions on the wider than stock track widths any of you are running on a flatfender. Stock width is about 50" I believe. I'm wanting to go wider (and stronger), but I'm undecided on how wide to go. The ultimate height of my Willys will probably be 35" tires w/ 4" max. lift. It's an off road use only Jeep.

Warlock likes the 54" width I believe, which sounds about right to me for a Flatty. Anyone using something else? Pictures (from the front or rear) would be helpful. Thanks.

Me neither. I'm going to wider axles first. Just contemplating how wide??
I didn't realize Cherokee axles were in that range. What year vehicles?
I'm leaning toards having some built (pending tax refund and selling an ATV:)) Thanks.

Memory is fuzzy but I think my front is about 60- or 61-inches. Rear is 58 'cause I just had a new housing built. I like it. Really stable.

    FYI - A Wagoneer/Cherokee narrow track front is 59.5-inches wms-wms. A wide track is 65.5-inches.

Mike - with the axles I ended up with I will be 53" - a NT stance with longleafs @ 2.5" suspension lift and a 2" body lift. I like to keep the running gear lower and bumped the body up for the engine and tires if I go there. I can measure and picture for you if you want.

I pulled the tranny, case and OD yesterday to start the 465 swap. The axles are sitting behind it waiting thier turn...

Really looking forward to getting this finished for the spring.

My Cj3A has a narrow track Dana 30 up front at 53" and a Centered Dana 44 in the rear that came out of a 1970 Jeepster at 51". This works well for a mild build and a 2 " lift for a resto mod look. My CJ3B with tub frame and wrangler Springs (3.5" lift) are using cut down Dana 44 Waggoneer axles and they are at 58" and I am staying spring under with 35" tires.

I can't really tell that well from the pictures of Dummy's Willys, but it seems like a 60-61" wms would just be too wide (for my taste). That would be an additional 5" on each side.
Willysworker, your Dana 30 WT (should be 56") doesn't seem to stick out too far at all. Maybe it's because of the narrow tires. You've got me considering going to 56", but I would be running a tire width of at least 11.5" Thanks guys. More pics are still welcome.

Yep. I found some of those pics. That Jeep is for sale again. It's at 54" (from what he remembers), but that's just 1" wider than than the NT Dana 30, and I don't remember your's (ljspop) looking as wide as that. Seems silly to be having such heartburn over a couple of inches, but when I eventually get the axles, I want that set up to last a loooong time.

Stink, I didn't realize it was for sale again. Where's that spare $11k when you need it. FWIW, the ad says 55" width.

Mine is pretty wide, but that's what I wanted. I also normally run 35x13.50-15 Krawlers on 15x10 beadlocks with a 3.5-inch backspacing. Right now I've got a set of 285/75/16s on 16x8 with 4.5-inch b.s. for a test and the front measures 71-inches outside sidewall-sidewall.

Found some photos that will help better. These are with the old 56.5-inch wide rear housing. Like I said, new one is 58.

Great pics guys. I appreciate all your input! Now I just need to get that letter sent to Santa for the axles. :) I'm pretty sure I haven't been THAT good this year.

The first pic is at Waggy width of 61" wms with 35" tires. Second pic is of 53" wms with the same tires. Now I am at 63" wms but do not have any pictures until I finish putting my axle together. Plus I have to buy a less offset wheel than the H2 wheels I currently have.

If you want to lift it at all and keep a short wheelbase then you need a high pinion axle in the rear to maintain driveshaft angles. It just so happens I have a matched set of axles for sale. You can see in the last picture just how flat the rear axle is. http://www.film.queensu.ca/ConferWeb/CJ3B/450757821.html

Thanks for posting those pictures Peter. I actually already e-mailed you about those axles with a bunch of questions.
You said you have a sale pending. Still pending? If not, see if you can find my e-mail and respond to those questions. Thanks.
