I just put a Pertronix in my 225, and tried to use a MSD Blaster 2 coil, but I had problems. The MSD coil brakes down, it will heat up & cause the jeep to run at a rough under power. If you are going to go with a Pertronix unit I would use the flame thrower coil from Pertronix this fixed my problem. I still needed to use a resister on in.

You might have an arc-over problem with a stock cap and rotor and a high voltage coil. You'll have to try it and see.

Check the specs of the igniter - if it gives a longer spark, you're ok. Compare the voltages; I'd expect you should be able to go with a somewhat hotter coil (higher voltage) if all your ignition parts are in top condition.

The aftermarket distributor is just that, aftermarket. I bought one to replace my original (worn out) distrubutor in my L-head but the Pertronix unit I had (#1541) would not fit. There is another Pertronix unit (#1548??) that works with som early distributors, but in the end I think you are going to have to try it to see. You might call Pertronix directly to see if they have a unit that will fit your new distributor.

Just another thought- There was another thread where someone posted a source for a 12v coil to fit in the military distributor. Perhaps there is a Pertonix kit to fit the waterproff military setup? That would be the bulletproof setup IMHO...

i agree with the bulletproof setup but expensive setup.i was posted the link for the 12v military coil.it was john at midwest military.a very nice guy.
but the problem is the very-very expensive cables and spark plugs.and of course the price of the 24v-12v coil.
finally its difficult to find parts on the road for this setup and expensive to carry one of all.
on the other side i use my jeep as a history item and i dont climb to the rocks and travel slowly some trips.thats i like it!

msd blaster or pertronix flamethrower?if pertronix i need a coil with resistor?and if i buy a coil with resistor what would be happen when i will change in electronic ignition?new coil without resistor????
because i read that in points system resistor needed when change in electronic dont need the resistor.

    thanks

No matter what if the original system had a resistor you need to have one again and with the Pertronics you must make sure the coil has a resistance of no less than 1.5 ohms or you can damage the Pertornics.
MSD blaster 2 coils are 1.2 ohms the Pertrnics does not like ehm .
