I was wondering if there is a way to test if I have good oil pressure, just for now easily. To see if I have a problem. Is the only way to do this to pay 60 for a gauge and sending unit. Or should I just assume everything is alright? Or is a gauge realy neccasary for regular all the time?

ALso I was looking at theromstats and wondered what temp i should get for a :hurrican:

I personally would just buy and permanently install a gauge.....

you could buy an inexpensive manual oil gauge at FLAPS and hook it up to run and observe the oil pressure.
    I would use a 180* t/stat.

Oil pressure gauge is the most important one IMHO, and you generally get what you pay for. A $60 gauge is lots sheeper than an $1800 engine. ;)

Do your self a favor and retain the idiot light. If you install a gauge, simply T the plumbing at the block. I've found that while driving and wheeling, a red light is a lot more apt to catch your eye, especially when you are busy with the trail.

Grab one for free at a junkyard. 6 bucks for the kit to run the hose.

My dash is littered with oil pressure, fuel, volt, water temp, tach, fuel pressure, and something else. The only two guages that actually concern me are oil and temp. Fuel not so much (5 gal jerry in back). Simple install and worth every dime.
