I just purchased a new (to me) set of diffs. As a result, I will need to switch my dana 18 to a dana 20. My question is, do I need an adapter kit to mate the dana 20 to a stock T-90, or will the current bearing and bearing retainer work. This is a 6-spline shaft on the T-90.

    Thanks in advance, George

I think that Jeep used a bearing retainer when they went to the big hole D18 transfer case, its the t-case with the 1 1/4 intermediate shaft. Then you can mate a D20 to a T90. A late model D18 big hole case is the same as a D20 case.

What you need is the rear bearing and bearing retainer assembly from a T-86. These can be had new from any Crown dealer and used from most shops that deal with Jeep parts and transmissions. That unit centers the large hole 18 and 20 cases on the back of the transmission and also has the rear bearing for the trans in it. It spaces everything correctly and will work fine with a T-90. Done it a couple of times with no issues. Nickmil
