If I had your knowledge bank on the subject at the time, I would have driven that seal all the way home. Generally most applications, you drive the seal flush to the surface of the casing. It had me scratching my head a bit. That is what happens when you are self-taught and need to learn as you go. I sure appreciate what folks like yourself post up. It sure helps us all out. Still learning every day and enjoying it.

Moving along transmission cover was in need of a bit of help PO had 3 sizes of sheet metal screws holding the cover down, and a couple of them were stripped out. I did not want to go any bigger so while the transmission and TC were out I did a little body work on the cover and install 8-32 rivnuts in the floor pan. I thought it came out fairly well for a backyard body man. Pioant job by Rust-Oleum

I fired it up this afternoon. Throw out bearing was screaming! I looked at it when I had the transmission out and it looked new along with the clutch. So not sure what is up. At this point, I just said the heck with it a took it out for a test drive around the lake.

Making slow progress transmission shifted really nice, TC is really hard to get out of 4 low & high. Not sure what is up. I could shift it on the bench. I am thinking I just need to figure out the technique or TLC needed. Drive shaft vibration and noise are a significant improvement.

The brakes worked great they just need some TLC and the replacement of the proportional valve.

Been trying to find a connector to fit the switch, really not sure if one really needs it.

Now to address the engine oil leaks. PO changed things around a bit at first I was thinking a lot of blow-by has a lot of oil in the area of the dipstick dripping down on the starter. I tested the PCV valve and it seemed to be satisfactory. I am questioning if the valve cover should be vented. I was thinking about draining the engine oil while I had it hot and it looks like the oil filter has been on there a very long time. Then I discovered I could turn it off by hand. The fingernail test indicated the gasket was very hard so I am thinking it may have been leaking and blowing oil toward the dipstick. Anyway I may be overthinking this as some would correctly put it but I question needing an engine casing breather

I forgot the good news carburetor seems to work really well for sitting all this time I haven't done anything with it choke sets every time and kicks out and seems to be really smooth with load changes. Crazy but something has to go right now I probably jinxed it.

Dana 20 transfert could be a pain to shift. I normaly put the jeep in reverse, goes 1-2 feet, push the clutch before it stop. You need to unload the stress on the gear.

Something if have to do that forward and back 1-2 times before it goes free.

What a beautiful bridge and picture with the yellow CJ on a snowy wood road. This is artistic. This covered bridge is well painted, where is it, what is written above.
You did a top picture !

Just been fixing a lot of small things like windshield wipers, etc.
I have been looking for an air filter set up for the last couple of months and finally gave up and decided to fabricate one myself.

PO must have installed this when they did the carburetor. About 8" OD and 2" high mfg. by K&N. Hold the filter up, and you can see right thru it. Anyway, no luck finding a replacement filter of the same dimensions. I have been watching the classifieds looking for a stock filter housing, but I would like a larger filter. The problem is that the PB housing needs to be offset; stock filter housing is but has an awful small filter.

Looking at flow numbers, filtration, and availability, I elected to go with the WIX 304 filter. $8 from Rockauto. I like it.

As usual, my design was influenced by what I could find lying around, and I got to use my sheet metal equipment that is older than my jeep.

I have stopped all the oil leaks in the drivetrain and most of the engine. Just fighting blowby now it has me scratching my head. The PVC valve appears to be satisfactory but I have ordered a new one and will change it out. No breather in the valve cover I am thinking of pulling this plug (red arrow) and running it down the road and seeing what happens.

Also, note no fan shroud, I have been watching the classifieds with not much luck. Looks like OMIX has one but not OE so I question the quality.

I believe that is where the PCV valve originally went and the back hole went to filtered air from the air cleaner.

Here is a photo of how it is plumbed up now.

I think this is the correct illustration from the parts book. Showing the front valve cover port to the air filter and back to the PVC valve

I am blowing oil out of the dipstick tube @ highway speeds. I need to check and verify the vacuum at the carburetor base port. Sucking and blowing on the PVC valve indicates it is satisfactory.

Just could be that the engine has too much blowby for the breather system.

It needs to have a place for air to enter in order for it to circulate out through the PCV. At any rate the front hole in your valve cover is blocked with some sort of plug. It
needs fresh filtered air of some configuration.

Been working on a lot of small stuff, but I did change out the front bumper and got rid of a lot of scrap metal.

It is the 2nd of April, and it has been snowing, hailing, and raining the last few days. I have heaps of projects to work on outside. The ground is beyond saturated. It will be a while till I can get the tractor and equipment out there. I keep walking by my little chariot, and it keeps distracting me. I have been building a rear bumper for the last couple of days. This is an excellent rainy-day project.

I want to build it to tow a light trailer and haul a dirt bike on a carrier. I also want to have the spare mounted on a swing out to improve the ease of getting things in and out of the back. I am considering leaving the spare off when just running errands around the farm and into town.

Some have told me not to overthink the problem, but I have found that forethought is always better than an afterthought.

I got to put my milling machine to use yesterday. Makes me feel good the mill is about the same vintage as the jeep.

The OG can still weld, funny I have a heck of a time seeing what I am doing anymore but unless I put my cheaters on my welds still look OK.

This is what you call a prototype that will never make production and hopefully just get a lot of use.

It has been raining out, so I have been hanging out in the shop working on my chariot.

I did my share of agonizing over the backup lights. I originally wanted to put round incandescent lights on just for the look, but then practicality set in. I need sufficient light around our place to be able to back up when it gets dark its dark!

Light sockets are shot in the stop/turn lights, and lenses show their age. Again I really wanted to put round lights on it, but Grote Mfg. has direct replacements with LED's that look original, so I ordered a couple. I just think the square lights are ugly. They belong on a dump truck. In the future, maybe. After they show up, I want to re-wire the rear lights and include a plug for the trailer lights. I may need to change out the flasher with LED's in the back and incandescent in the front.

I have started building a swing-out carrier and trying to build my design as usual as to what I can scrounge up.
