We hung the front clip back on the Willys pickup this morning to check clearance on a couple of things...it was nice to see it looking like a truck again!
Now it's back off and we're working on engine placement...

    I'm planning a similar powerplant for my '60 wagon. 2000 5.0L, NP 435, D18 & Warn OD.

Meantime, back at the ranch, me and chief diagnostician are trying to get CJ engine to stop running so we can follow Howell tech diagnostic procedures.

This one will be all Ford...302 V8, NP435, 1356 Tcase, and 8.8 rear axle, all from the same 86 F150. The only Jeep part will be the front Dana 44 from a Wagoneer.

I'm determined to make my pto winch work. Took advantage of a 55° and sunny day to rough out a new bumper to accommodate spooling up from the bottom.
A friend is making me a 12" wide hawse fairlead, all the available ones are generally 10"

Thank you but I cannot take credit. The PO Marty built or paid for all of that. He told me there is a plate behind the dashboard reinforcing that connection. Some people may disagree with the style, but there are no tubes down to the floor.

Working on a shackle reversal. These brackets are from an early 5 frame. I'm going to make a mirror image incorporating a tab for the new bumper. This will give some " slope" rather than a vertical edge if I hit something. I moved the front axle forward 1" this will give me an 82" wheelbase. More could be had but would spiral into steering, driveshaft mods. IMG_20230201_180026327.jpg IMG_20230201_180010254.jpg

I been busy the last couple weeks! This being my first classic car, and a recent purchase, everything I do is a "first time" for me haha.

    Since my last post:
    Drained and refilled diffs

Replaced leaky T-case gaskets and drained/replaced trans and t-case fluids

Replaced all radiator Hoses, water hoses, Added heavy duty water/heater valve.
In the process discovered A leak under the heater core. So I bought a new core and sanded/repainted the heater box.

I also was recently given a can of touch up paint by the PO!!! So I was able to touch up the rusty spots created on the firewall by the leak

In the process of pulling the Radiator hoses I discovered just how crappy the water system was AND I found the PO had been running without a Thermostat

So I flushed the system (twice) and Installed a thermostat. In the process the old aluminum thermostat hoosing cracked while torquing So I ordered and installed a new steel one from kaiserwillys.
I also have a brand new radiator ready to go in once I get the jeep back from shop that's putting on ALL NEW BRAKES! 4 wheel cyls, new master cyl, new hoses, and new pads!

I also rebuilt the solex Carb and installed a Mr Gasket Fuel pressure regulator.

Oh and lastly, and unfortunately with no pic, I added a TightSteer to the ross steering box! WOW I was able to get her up to almost 50 and she steered comfortably and steadily!

Will give updates and more pics when I get a chance!

Brackets modded. Had to punt the factory hangars are 2 1/4 outside, 2" inside. I don't have any stock with those dimensions and me trying to fab something would be a warped twisted mess.

Picked up DadsTJ from the shop today - another $800 spent to just to give it away.... But, that's what I got out of the 1/2Ranger trailer so it all evened out.

So, now it has a new steering box, transmission seal, rear wheel cylinders, suspension bushings and oil pan in the last couple months. Saturday I'll get it tucked into the corner of the garage where it will sit until May when my son will come get it.

He's itching to drive it back to MI - but with it all being setup to flat tow I'm going to recommend he borrow a truck and do that. All of these repairs will have like 3 miles on them.

Closer. Cutting off the rear fixed hangars tomorrow and installing tubing through the frame for the shackle bushings. Once satisfied I'll finish welding up the front hangars, clean everything up and do some shake n shoot. 5722.jpeg 5723.jpeg

Loaded up for King of the Hammers. Then, firewood, cook gear, beer, fuel, tools, at least 7 layers of clothing, beer, food.

I'm not seeing ribeye steaks on that list. They are more than just 'food'.

Looked at it and the 66 and wished I was going to the Hammers. It's been so long since I've been, it was still a pretty small event the last time I was there.

We have about 10 guys in our camp, so I'm bringing the smoker, the bbq, and yes, ribeyes. The shopping trip was comical, meat, booze, beer, etc...
