Does anyone have a picture of what a factory Renegade I roll bar looks like?

I presume that they were the same as R-II were.

Yep that’s the original Jeep roll bar alrighty.
I believe it was first available in late 1969 on the Renegade I. And maybe earlier on the 462 ?

Thanks, the one I have is similar, but the main hoop is angled back. It has the same angle iron mounts with the holes in the sides to bolt through the tub.

Hi Nate, I think this thread should help answer your question:

    http://www.earlycj5.com/xf_cj5/index.php?threads/118781/

The tops of the diagonal braces on they 462 / 1970 Ren I version of early OEM roll bar, which was manufactured by Whitco, were closer together than those on the slightly later version. This later version, pictured in Wyomike's post above, was OEM on the '71 Ren I's and Ren II's, and was used through at least 1974 or '75. I understand the reason the tops of the braces were moved further out was at least in part because on the earlier version, the closer spacing often caused rear seat passengers tended to bump their heads.

I’m not seeing the roll bar I have. I’ll post a picture of it.

was it a dealer option? or factory? If it was a dealer option, they might not all be the same.

I have an old roll bar down in the barn which I plan to put on my CJ5. My cousin, who worked for the state highway department, found it at the side of a road so I have no idea what it came off of, but at one point I thought it might have been from a Renegade, but don't remember what led me to think that. Looking at the pictures above I don't think it is from a Renegade, the tubing on this one looks larger.

At some point these early roll bars became an available option. That said I imagine the 462’s used them and certainly they were always a part of the Renegade package.

This is the roll bar I have. I trimmed the rear angle iron to fit my 3A.

I'm not sure whether it is one or not, but that looks a lot like the Jeep factory roll bars used during the early to mid 1980's. Here's a photo of a CJ-5 from that time frame:

Your roll bar is probably from a 76 or later cj. The roll bar like WYOMIKE has was used thru 75 and is identical to the dealer installed one on my 74 . I assume the renegade ones installed at the factory up thru 75 were the same ones that were installed at the dealership. They were made by Whitco. The roll bar changed to the style you have in 76 when massive changes were made to the cj5.

The roll bar you have is for sure a factory or dealer installed bar. The base angle plates had the stamped bolt holes with a "dip" on the bottom so to not pull down the base plate and smash the raised ridges on the fender house.

Many of the factory original roll bars followed the same angle as the windshield frame. I bought a late ‘70s bar to put on a friend’s ‘68 or ‘69 CJ5. I couldn’t stand the two different angles, looks wise, but my friend thought it was fine.
Post #11 shows the same angles of the bar and windshield frame.

The 77 CJ7 you have does it not have the same roll bar? I would think it should. The only other thing I can think of: not sure the tubs are the same width on a 3A and a 76 up, But I guess you already measured. Also if you have a top for your 3A, the bar might be too tall, but the 76 up were about 1 inch less than the earlier intermediates.

My cj7 has a yj tub on it and someone built their own roll bar using the hoop of the yj and the angle bars of the cj.

I just put this bar in my 3A and it clears the top just fine. The bows are just a bit taller than it.
