    Thanks for the heads up!
I'm still working on mock up now.
I have a clamp on order from Trail Gear for the tie rod.

I also dont think you will have problem with TRE or knukkle with the ram assist. Have my ram assist with tre for 10 years now and its never been an issus.

I also strongly suggest to add a cooler and a good oil filter for the steering set-up.

Good thing for the clamp :)

After looking at Tim's 65 build and Johneyboy's rig I decided to explore reversing the ram and mounting it to the axle tube rather than the diff cover. This would allow for easier diff cover access, shorter hoses from the box to the ram and put the body of the ram in an area where there is more free space.
I have a bunch of stuff on order still, tie rod clamp, cooler, pump ect...... I'm just brainstorming at this point.

That's a good move. Also you will a good balance in the force. Steering box are always stronger when turning to the the right. A ram is always stronger when is going out of the cylinder than when it goes in. So having the ram mounted that way, you will have the force of the steering box turning to the right and the force of the ram when turning left.

Could a positive stop be welded on either side of the clamp with a few shims between? The clamp would be adjustable within the shim stack.

    Just a wild idea.

I have been looking at that ram assist mount. I need to make sure it's not too big to fit under my little jeep!
That cooler is the same one that I have on order, only in black!

I was wondering about tack welding a small piece of key stock on each side of the clamp after everything was all said and done. If I needed to change the toe adjustment a cut off wheel would remove it in a hurry.

Been having tie rod for 10 years with my ram assist and the clamp and i never had any sort of problem. If you parallel both the link between wheel and the ram assist with the ram assist toe rod end align together you wont have that problem. Keep tie rod on steering well grease also help a lot.

A little more progress on the ram assist.
All of the pre fabricated ram assist axle mounts were just too big for my lil' D30 and 33's... So I decided to make my own mount.
I started off with a rusty chunk of 2"x 4"x 1/4" wall box tubing that I hacked off of some old mill machinery that is destined for the scrap yard.

    Taking shape.
I don't mind fabrication during the winter months, I appreciate the heat from metal working.

So after an hour or so of that piece of scrap metal slowly became this......
It needs a little clean up and rust removal from the interior, but its pretty much done.

Now for a little mock up.
I am waiting on some high misalignment spacers from Ruff Stuff before I tack everything together. Once everything is tacked together the the jeep will get a thorough articulation test with the forklift to ensure there is no binding or contact. The forklift never really recreates the twisting and misalignment that the Rubicon does, but it gives you a good idea of what will be a problem.

Very nice work, and you saved yourself 50 bucks. It looks like it will work well.

I know that is hard to do, but you have to try to align the both rod end. Other you may have problem with the draglink moving left to right on the tie rod end...

The misalignment spacers came in from Ruff Stuff today.

After work today I mocked up the tie rod clamp on a piece of tube and welded up the clamp/rod end bracket.

I was very careful and used neversieze on the threads when I tightened the clamp.......
All of the bolts came out easy..... except this one that I welded in place...... :banghead:

I spent the rest of my time this evening drilling out that bolt and re tapping the threads.......
Tomorrow I will mock up the ram.

I mocked everything up with the ram fully extended and the wheels turned full right. Next I turned the wheels full left, allowing the ram to travel with the tie rod. The amount of exposed shaft is how much I will need to limit the travel with a spacer inside the cylinder.

you could also make a collar that can go over the shaft to limit travel. We used to do that on farm equipment.
