Finally got around to pulling the carb to install the altitude metering rod The Carburetor Shop made for me a couple years ago. I had found and bought that clamping tool for the adjusting but boy was it a pain to get on. Getting the plunger and spring down and then the angles was a bear but maybe I was doing it wrong. I guess with practice one gets better.

But now to figure out the adjustment

Back the steel idle stop screw out until it isn't touching the boss on the throttle body. With the tool in place, the tip of the metering rod should be bottomed out and the top inside of the eye should be resting on the brass pin in the carrier while the circular end of the carrier under the top spring should be flat against the lifter. Adjustment is made by bending the 1/4" arm of the carrier where the pin is mounted up or down. And yes. The tool can be a little stubborn in its attachment.

I see you had the band-aids handy!

Never knew there was a tool.

So just to be clear, once it’s all set, I should not be able to manually push the rod down ANY further but it should also not be forced down meaning just a little wiggle of the eye?

Correct. The tool exerts the same pressure on the accelerator pump as the top of the carb does when installed.

That’s what I thought Bruce had showed me. Thanks.

What started me off getting this altitude rod finally installed was the jeep had been running fine up at the cabin, just a bit rich. The last trip I was pulling a trailer getting firewood without any issues. After disconnecting the trailer behind the the cabin and on a slight incline sideways, it lost power every time I tried to pull out. It’s been there multiple times as that’s where it gets parked and pull out from there tons of times. It would idle just fine and warm up fine. But when try to rev, it would just bog down. I know getting fuel, etc. Finally had to use the starter to get it back out of way. I figured there must be something in the carb so decided to pull it and bring it home to go thru. Unfortunately found nothing obvious so when we get back I’ll see if it runs.
