Put some gas in the tank. Cranked it a bit. After a couple starts and warm up.

Started as well as my TBI!

Complete running engine. Put hoses on and water in radiator. Brought up to temp and nothing blew up.

This is the best oil pressure I’ve had in my 3 Buick V6s.

I pulled the oil pan to see how much gunk was there. What do you think of this piston and main bearing?

Rod 3 is clearly stamped cap and all.
I think I even see fresh cross hatches on the bore.

Not as exciting as Cynthia’s fold and tumble demonstration above but I did put a few “Cage Nuts” in the floor tonight. Good deal on EBAY.

A little progress yesterday. Installed the transmission cover and driver seat. I checked all the fluids then took her out around the block. Besides having Zero brakes I did find the clutch is VERY sensitive (Advanced Adapter chain linkage), the brake pedal still hits the bellhousing and the carb needs more adjustment (poor throttle response).

Back home I took 4 of the 6 spacers out from the transmission crossmember. Now the valve cover isn’t hitting the firewall and the throttle linkage is getting full travel. Best I can figure the PO did this when he installed the lift springs to help correct shaft angles. So we may create a different problem and need a different solution in the coming days.

I texted with the automotive Electrican who did the wiring for my ’66. He is willing to do this one also so that’s a big relief. I was otherwise going to send the Jeep to Greg with the wire harness in the box.

Next up is getting the brake pedal to avoid hitting the Bell and bleed the brakes.

You weld those in, or do they clip into the floorpan?

Clipped ‘em in - very easy. I welded a bunch on my’66 when I first built it. Wish I had known how cheap and easy these are.

Several hours under the Jeep today. Had to pull the brake pedal to make a slight bend so it didn’t hit the bellhousing. Completely reinstalled and had to pull it out again to bend more. Reinstall with shims and pull it again to adjust.

While I was in there I made the AA chain linkage fix for the overly sensitive clutch.

Here’s the thread on the clutch.

The second lower hole is the fix.

Been waiting to work on this until I got the hood on. Wire wheel the seam good and spray “rust converter “ in there. Tomorrow I will caulk and paint.

The whole Jeep is still going to be a rusty mess but I thought this section better get some attention.

Day off and Cynthia is out of town so I got some time in early today. The passenger side exhaust hung way low.

Pie cut and jack it up.

I made one more pass, blade width from here.

    Welded up. Much better.

The tow bar mount was only one leg. I got it the 1 mile home like that but the guy who is going to install the harness is almost an hour away.

    That looks lots safer.

Took out a couple in-op gauges and put in new temp gauge.

Cleaned the headlights and rings then put new harnesses on the bulbs.

Also installed new blinker fixtures. I tried to make the old ones work but no luck.

I guess I didn’t post anything here but after a little bit of driving I’ve found the clutch is slipping badly. I spoke with the future owner (wife’s son Greg) and gave him the choice of taking it as is or waiting until he can come down from Atlanta and change the clutch here. I’ve got all the needed tools and parts. He has a socket set and a hammer.
