What type of paint was originally used back in the 60's? I want to clear coat my 67 Tux Park with a matte clear coat to preserve what I think is excellent patina, but wondering what kind of clear coat I should ask my buddy to use when he does it.

Probably acrylic enamel. Ask on the autobody101 forum - they may know how to test.

356 was a 62 Normal, I recently sold it. Truth be said I really enjoy the 67 6 more.

I used to fool around with Porsche cars. Never had a 356, but wanted one. I had a 914, and a 911T. I also briefly owned a 912, but sold it before driving it much.

Sold my last one 25 years ago, and probably have lived longer because of selling it. There is no logical reason to go 150 on the freeway, but those cars make you want to drive fast.

I too enjoy my Jeeps more, they don't go anywhere fast, but they will go anywhere I want to go.

My dogs certainly like the Jeep better, and their opinion matters to me.

Check with a good automotive paint store. I know there are some clear coats that are being used for preserving patina. (I own a body shop that does a lot of rust repair but we contract out our paint work.)

For paint to have "patina" wouldn't there have to actually be paint?

Other than the chrome bumper, mirror, and hood badge, what are the clues that it's a TP?

From what you can see....the seats, hood hinges are chrome as is the windshield lock-down. On the backside the licence plate light and chrome taillights. Ultimately though it's the VIN number that tells the story.

8422 prefix. Your Tux paint is almost beyond patina, approaching what I call burned. Still a nice original Tux.

There was a body shop here near Newport, RI that practically specialized in sealing that finish. I wish I knew their prep but they do lightly sand off the loose stuff then spray/seal with clear coat. The rust takes on a little darker color and it all looks cool and can occasionally sit in the rain. Always wondered how long a linseed oil rub down would work but you cant go to a paint coating after that. JeepinJewel has the path - paint shop should be able to steer you right.
