I did also pulled the plugs and put some oil into the cylinders. First attempt at turning it over with a wrench was disappointing but after putting the breaker bar on the ratchet it freed up and I was able to get it all the way around. (With one very tight spot!)

Put some MMO or diesel in the cyls too - will help with rust and rings if they are not already shot.

oh - and make sure your tetanus shot is up to date :D

I found it has this original Dauntless air cleaner. I also found I’m missing a couple cylinders.

Doing a test of this Harbor Freight rust reformer. Stand by for results…

Spent some time on the Free Jeep tonight.
Hot wired the starter with the plugs out. It sounds bad but it was turning over fine. Except the water pump is frozen. Been sitting 20 years the starter wasn’t happy to wake up!!

No idea what transmission this is but I really only know my T14 and T18.

it’s 8” long / no adapter. Fill and drain on driver side.

After getting it turned over I went to look at the carb next. Having trouble identifying this also!!

Shop vac carefully sucked all that up.

Take a peek into the brake MC.

Stopped there and maybe try to start it tomorrow.

Trans has a T86 shifter, and that would be correct for a '67, except the not having an adapter, but that was right on the cusp of the T14, with no adapter. The carb is probably just a 2G with a later dry filter adapter, and mud dobber nest.

Yes the carb is a regular old 2G. Just a bit of surprise to see it covered like that. I’ll have to look again for an adapter. Are you sure the T86 had an adapter?

The T14 V6s normally have an adapter too except for the 1971 only longer bellhousing Jeeps. The T14 in my '69 has a standard Buick bellhousing with a factory spacer/adapter.

The bumps on the bellhousing in his picture match up with the 1971 long bellhousing and T14 I have on the floor here:

Someone must have replaced the T86 with T14 from a 1971 donor at some point.

Yes, the T86-equipped jeeps had the adapter to the bellhousing, before they elongated the BH to take up that space and eliminate the adapter, (as stated above around 1971), and use the T14.

Factory '69 and '70 T14s also used an adapter like the T86. 1971 is the only year of the long bellhousing.

Bubba had a brainstorm here. See the rocker switch below the column? That is Acc or at least power to the coil. See the big black button above the column? I think that is a starter button (but it doesn’t work). The toggle switch? I have no clue!

There are lots of extra wires in here. Most bundled with electronic tape. I’m trying to focus on just making it start but so much other stuff that will need fixing!!

Ya get what ya pay for!!

Who welds the fenders to the grill?

This is better! I couldn’t even get to the coil before with the fan and gigantic shroud.

I have 12v at the coil but I’m not getting any spark. Time to start throwing parts at it.

Took over an hour to find my spare coil in the garage. That didn’t get me spark so points and condenser and a new spare cap I had. Finally got spark but called it a night as I was whipped from my Friday.

Hopefully have time over the weekend to dump some fuel in carb and see if she will run.
