Is this '67 supposed to have this many spacers? It looks very tidy, like factory, but it seems excessive. My 66 had none before transmission swap (which may not be correct either).

My '70 had roughly that same sort of stack when it had the T14 in it, so I'd say it doesn't look wildly out of place.

    Good morning Buildflycrash!
Funny, I was just looking at @Fireball pics of his new jeep. Looks like he has 2 more spacers than you.
I’ve also been chatting with @Cj5dale and asked him for a pics and measurement of his. He has 2 spacers for 1/2 inch on a ‘70.
I have none on my 69 but also have an obnoxious body lift.
It will be interesting to see the replies here.

Maybe the T86/90 clocked the 18 a bit higher than the T14, requiring (more) spacers to keep it out of the body?

    Just a guess…

I know both of my T14 equipped Jeep have two spacers per side. My new '68 that came with a T86 has 4 spacers, but it's been swapped to a T-90 and a new cross frame. I have to idea if that tall stack is original.

The parts book would suggest two per side unless it's a 4-speed, then there could be 4 per side.

As far as I know the T14 behind the V6 uses two spacers and the T18 behind the V6 uses three spacers.
This pic is from my friends all original from the factory V6/T18 4spd.

went and looked in parts box
    4 spacers for T 14 - 2 per side
    4 more spacers when I had a TH350 - 4 per side
now with T 18 . I just use 1" aluminum spacer each side . just to clear floor

I didn’t get a photo but the shifter cane definitely looks different from a stock T14. I’ll get some photos of the cane and transmission tonight for y’all.

Oh, right. I forgot. My CJ already had a 4" lift on it when I got it, so mine might not have been stock in the first place.

Do you (anyone) know the 1st gear ratio on Jeep T18 from these years?

Most likely 6.32:1. The 4.09:1 First gear models didn't show up till later.

My friends 71 has the 4:1 T18 mated to the V6 from the factory. It is my understanding that the T18's mated to the 4cyl had the deep granny gear 6.32:1

So the transmission shifts very smoothly while sitting in the garage. It seems to have only 4 shift positions - 3 forward. So maybe not a T18. I got this picture and measured the transmission at just about exactly 8”. There is no adapter on the front or the rear. The oil fill and drain are both on driver side.
I know my old T14A has an adapter on front and the drain/ fill on passenger side. So, What is it?

    Here’s the shifter cane.

Knowing what engine you have is helpful. Since no adapter I’d bet an F-head and T-90. The “filler” on the driver’s side of the transfer case is not a filler. It’s the pivot for part of the clutch linkage. Filler for the transfer case is on the passenger side.

    Engine is a Dauntless.
I’ll look again tomorrow but I didn’t see any filler on passenger side. The clutch linkage tubes are gone in favor of the AA chain linkage so what looks like a plug could be a plug in the linkage hole I guess.

It’s not a plug, it’s the pivot for the factory clutch linkage. The factory fill hole is either on the passenger side or if the case was changed it might be on the back of the case if a 20 case was used. If it still has a park brake on the transfer case an certain 20 cases were used the filler could be behind the park brake assembly.

As I stated above, it looks like a T14 with the 1971 only long bellhousing.
