I have a 2 wheel drive Willys Wagon,3spd w/overdrive,have the shirt cable in and everything is free and adjusted, now I want to try solenoid shifter, thinking of momentary switch to energize and shift and stepping on gas to hold it in, when letting off it should down shift automatically, read about doing this on HAMB,any experience here?Yes I could buy the whole kit from Vintage Auto, but what's the fun in that.Have an extra solenoid that I have bench tested so have an idea what goes on.....now to learn to"fly". :)

This unit bolts directly to the transmission and replaces the tail shaft...

Hasn't worked, wires frayed, switches unknowns, just wire up solenoid to manual switch and everything seems happy, gotta cut the grass before I Can play any more.

Quick update, hot wired the solenoid and it works, shifts into od slick as ....well you know....some what of a ritual to do it right, just tested the rail switch and governor and they are working so another thing accomplished, next is kick down switch and solenoid on fire wall.....pretty cool

I am not slick enough to do pics on here....but I can from one phone to another......settle down now :drool;.......it was a real popular system in its day, and most manufactures used the same one(basically),the tricky part is you have to manually shift into od,but it won't up shift until 28mph and that's where the solenoid comes inland it shifts out by itself when you slow downwind your supposed to pull out the manual shift when you stop, and never back up with it in od because you will wreck it......nothing casual about using it.....but its pretty slick and quiet when working......kind of like driving a Road Ranger with an auxiliary, great if you remember where you are

Years ago I had a 64 F-100 pu with 3 on the tree and a overdrive as you describe. It did not work for some reason. Sold it like I bought it, not working. I bet it was exactly the same unit. I remember there was a kickdown switch under the gas peddle and a rectangular solenoid of some sort associated with it on the left engine side firewall. Best driving auto I ever owned.

My dad owned a ‘52 Mercury with electric shifting OD. Same operation, except it would continuously blow the fuse for the solenoid. Dad, being of a farm background, replaced the fuse with a piece of 1/8” copper tubing. No more power interruptions and, astonishingly, no fires!

I have the carcass of an R10 from a Willys Wagon from decades ago. I tried a couple time to get the thing to work, but never succeeded. Yes, I could get the solenoid to kick in, along with the manual cable. I believe the governor was always at fault, and maybe more. They are very fiddle-ey to get to operate.
A friend had an R10 on the back of a 3 spd column-shift manual on his ‘67 or ‘68 Chevy C10 pickup. His worked flawlessly!
    Good luck-Donny

I just saw that Herm has a kit to do this,I do not think it would be a hard project, goes on where the E brake mounts, and only works in rear wheel drive, just get an od unit and start fabbing....there was a guy south of you had a couple for sale on CL last winter,I picked one up for parts if I wrecked mine

So I got a relay, cable with overdrive t handle and a manual from Vintage Auto, put everything together and used the wire harness from Walcks that came with the main harness, once again Carl does a real nice job on his harnesses, it works perfect, was able to use the kick down switch, govenor and lockout switch and solenoid shifter that came on the wagon.....the cable shifter is real nice heavy wire and sheath

I had a 60 Rambler station wagon with the 250 V8, 3 speed column shift (T96) and a R10. It always worked. The trans and OD are still collecting dust in the shop.
