Has anyone ever used polyurethane sealant between the windshield gasket and windshield frame and maybe even the glass? I see that Quadratec sells it in the gasket section of their catalogue. I think it would be a messy endeavor.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks Todd

Doesn't need it if the gasket is in good shape.

On my Blazer, I learned the hard way, several times, that a good seal is done with the rubber. Not the sealant that the parts store is insisting the “pros” use. I imagine it carries over to both places on the cj

My M38A1 has a one piece replacement windshield. I've been thinking about if there is a possibility of gluing a vertical rubber strip down the middle to give the appearance of a two piece windshield. Not sure if such a thing would hold up.

I used polyurethane black caulk to set my glass, but it’s a 2a windshield with a semi rusted out inner wind shield. In my application the glass sits inside a channel. I would not recommend this in a stock civilian one piece windshield with a rubber gasket.

The 2-piece windshield is less safe than a single pane. The center bar could critically obstruct your vision at some point. The military must have had a reason to specify a split windshield. Split windshields for passenger vehicles became obsolete when technology developed to provide one-piece glass.

Success! That was a full body work out getting the spline in.

It makes for a pretty good mental workout too! I'm glad you knew to install the rubber with the locking strip outside. :)(y)

Every frame I have ever seen has the spline lock on the outside.
Hot water and dawn dish soap helped a bit. I ended up using a hardwood(a cherry cutoff from my sailboat build btw) wedge to install the glass and the spline. Worked good just tedious
