I bought the Omix Ida 17218.02 sensor off of Amazon for my 304. After testing it the gauge did nothing.

A mechanic buddy of mine took a look and said I need a sensor with 90-5 Ohms resistance and the one I bought was incorrect.

What sensor should I buy and where did you buy it from?

    Thanks!!!

The right way to do this is to look up the Jeep factory part number in the '74-80 factory parts book, available at RockAuto for less than $25. Suggest you should own it and know how to find things in it.

Likely you got the sender for the oil light, not for the gauge. The gauges were optional, so a '74 could have come with either (but not both).

I went to the alphabetical index and found SENDING UNIT, oil pressure gauge. Group 3.605-3, PN 4485864. https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/wve,1S6578,oil+pressure+sender+/+switch,4588

Service parts like this are available through regular aftermarket channels. I would avoid anything Omix that is available from a quality maker.

    Hey Tim

Unfortunately that is not what I need.

The part I need is for engine temp.

I think my title to the post should have said 'Temp Sensor' not sender!

    Thank you

If it said temperature in the title, I missed it.

All Jeeps '74-80 except the 151/2.5 use the same sender, 3177594. Again, you could buy the parts book and look that up yourself. Easy, and a trivial expense compared to what owning a car costs. https://www.rockauto.com/en/partsearch/?partnum=3177594

Why are you buying Omix parts for such a common item? If your Omix part crosses to that part number, it's a bad part. Not surprising if true. Suggest you trust but verify. Use your multimeter and measure the resistance across the sender at room temperature and in boiling water. Compare to the values given in the TSM. This would be a good idea for any replacement,
