I have had this Scrambler project in the shop for a month or so now. I wonder why I cant get my Flatfender up and running. :(

A friend of mine picked up a really good Scrambler, really it would have been nice to keep as is, but the frame did have some issues at the front. It was factory 6cyl, 5 speed with AC.

It was a barn find for him

He has had it for about for about 3 years and the plans have always been to put the body on a modern LJ chassis. He had been bringing it up to be for a bit but finally got serious about 2 months ago.

Got the body off the original chassis

The LJ chassis was already prepped with all the mounts removed
Pretty much lowered the body down close to the chassis, bolted the body mounts to the new mounts and then tack to frame and check measurements. It really was not that difficult, but it does help to have a lift.

There is a difference in length of the LJ chassis to the CJ8 chassis, i needed to add about 8 inches to the rear of the LJ frame and a new rear crossmember for the CJ8 tub to bolt down. The rear sections were also angled in a touch so the CJ8 rear body mounts would clear the frame rails

Plated the sides and capped off the top portion and added a sercret signature. You can see the angle inward of the rear pieces.

After that was time to work on other things.
The lower steering column bearing decided it wanted to be absent, so a new one was ordered. It was a pretty cool kit, a real sealed bearing and it makes things real smooth

The wiring was a plug and play affair. My friend purchased a plug and play harness for the Jeep. It was nice to jsut plug things in from the fuel pump to the front.
It came with a secondary stand alone fuse block with relays and i mounted it to the side of the battery and the ECM was mounted under the battery tray.

The brake system is the LJ setup. The booster will not work with the CJ bracket. If I used a YJ bracket, i would have to modify the pushrod.
I decided to make another adapter like I did on an old M38a1 project. Just a simple spacer that the booster bolts to and bolts to the firewall

I am waiting for teh hood to be brought to me, i need to check the MC clearance, i may have to move things down a touch on the adapter.

The rear fuel filler needed to be moved.

We used a YJ filler neck and licence plate holder to hide it. It was a real simple straight fuel hose with one angle at the fuel tank.

The next things to accomplsih is the cooling system. We were going to use a CJ radiator, but the LJ steering box interferes with the lower corner. Next we are going to use a TJ unit because it is actually smaller than the CJ. With this install we will not be using a mechanical fan, there is no room for it unfortuantely.
After that is done, i believe we will be ready to fire the engine up.

Half cab and camper shell!?!? That would be a lot of fun around here with a roof top tent and some fishing poles.
