As Twin2 mentioned that is a motor mount, not a transfer case mount. There should be a rubber mount about 4" long under the transmission, and a round rubber insulator under the TCase.

I bought a whole set including the motor mounts and transmission/Tcase mounts from QTM for a very reasonable price.

The V6's don't use the round mount. They have the shown F134 motor mount repurposed to mount to the frame on passenger side.

EDIT: As noted below early V6's with the T86 still use the round mount. T14 V6s use a 4cyl engine mount on the frame.

Here's a sort of picture from my '69. There is an L-bracket that bolts where the round mount in on the 4 cylinders and connects to an F134 motor mount bolted into the frame C-channel:

The early v6 jeeps with T86 transmissions used the standard round transfer case mount. The later ones with a T14 used the 4 cyl. engine mount.

Learn something new everyday. The only V6 Jeeps I have owned have both been conversions from 4 Cylinder Jeeps and still had the round insulator.

How timely that this was posted, I just put a brand new transmission crossmember with the round bushing on yesterday, nothing seemed right. Now I get it. The original mount to the frame was missing. Now I have a new crossmember freshly painted and new round bushing to sell! Thanks for this.

Now you got me thinking, I have got CRS, but I thought my 66 V6 donor Jeep had the round biscuit type with a "L' bracket moved back on the frame? like Fireball shows. My Wife says when you get old your brain gets too full and you forget a lot. Can't remember:poo:.

Yeah, my ‘66 had the round mount too. It’s an original V6 Jeep and had the T86 originally. I never have seen the 4-cylinder engine mount style one.

So the question is... which one is better? I modified my crossmember during my t18 swap to use the round mount, but I've yet to run it. I own both types though.

I feel like I read somewhere on here about the ear snapping off on the d18.

Upon further review, there is evidence of an old motor mount inside the frame rail about three inches forward of the transfer case mount!

Good question, the bracket to the motor mount seems a bit flimsy.

In my opinion, I’d sooner run the frame-mounted motor mount over the crossmember-mounted bushing. I believe they saw what was happening and changed the design in the later years due to the V6’s soft motor mounts allowing everything to flex but the t-case, which would snap the flange on the D18. The added flexibility of the steel tab will prevent the destructive pressure points.

In a previous rendition I beat the crap out of my flatfender with a hot v6 and donut mounted D18 with no problem. T90 always gave up first... I thought they moved to the frame mount due to the drivetrain offset.

Remember at this time Kaiser was using parts they had laying around, trying to make things work. I believe, from past threads here, the adding these mounts to the Trans. and T-Case was to stop that shimming while backing up. The stay cable was added too at some time.

Probably won't be shown in your TSM. The 3-speeds use a mount like this -

    CJ3-speedmount.png

The 4-speeds have an outboard mount that is different; probably covered in old posts. Nothing like the V6 mount.

The 20 is different, having less torque on the outboard driveshaft(s) compared to the 18.
