Would the rim off a postal have the appropriate 4-1/4 center bore or smaller? Just trying to avoid an eBay goat rope of trusting others to measure.

    Thanks

That’s what I was thinking, but have only been into Jeep’s for a couple weeks. I have seen some rims that look Jeep(raised ring for lugs) 5x5.5 but with small hub but no one could say original application.

The 2wd DJs, at least the earlier ones, had 4-lug wheels. Not sure about ‘71+

I think it depends on the vintage. The early 70's postal Jeeps had 5x5.5 wheels and they used the same hubs and spindles as a CJ5. Those wheels would work. Some time later in the 70s they switched to car style front spindles and I think the bolt patter went to a 5x4.5. Those won't work.

Here's the early 70's style. Normal Jeep parts with a cap where the locking hub would go:

If the wheel fits that, it will fit a regular Jeep.

Yes. DJ5 Universal had 4 lug through 67 or so. from then on the DJ5 Universal had the same wheel as a CJ.
    DJ5A and B Dispatcher 100's had 14" 5 on 5.5 with 4.25 center hole.
    DJ5C through DJ5 G Dispatcher 100's had 15" 5 on 5.5 with 4.25 center hole.
    DJ5 L and M had something else.

I forgot most of the 5x5.5" ones are 14". Not super useful.

Thanks for the info. I’ll go ahead and get it then. I’ve got to purchase it before they pull it and will take detailed pics and measurements.

I put a Postal Jeep axel in my 1960 DJ in the rear, then welded the front hubs up and drilled them on a Bridgeport to 5X5.5 so I could use the same wheels all around. The donor Jeep had a Chevy 4 cylinder and Powerglide in it, it had Posi traction in the axel.

My '75 Postal Jeep Wheels are 15" 5x5.5" with a 4.25" center bore size. Im not sure on the width, but I think its about 6" wide.

I appreciate all the replies. I did not realize there would be this much nuance(and expense) to find some OEMish steelies. I’m focusing on finding what I believe to be late 70’s “disc” rims in case I do further brake upgrades. 15x6 welded, not riveted.

Do you recall the approximate tire sizes in this picture?

The pictures I got from the seller confirm it’s got the 4-1/4” center. Thanks all. 2 more rims to find…
