Previous owners put a Mallory HEI type distributor in at some point in the past. I'm wanting to go to a more stock style distributor.

Are these units stand alone other than a coil? They appear to be all electronic with a 2 wire hookup.

Rockauto carries them as well and the "info" tab mentions "Prestolite"

You don't want that. That's the Prestolite distributor that came original on your Jeep.

Go with a Duraspark from a '78 or newer, or a Delco from a '74 or earlier. The Prestolites are fraught with problems and nothing is compatible with them but the Prestolite ignition module. Bad.

My suggestion - go with a Delco points distributor and trigger an MSD module. Nothing but a points distributor is going to work without an external module. The Duraspark will trigger lots of different modules, but you'll need a module.

You can put a Pertronix conversion in a Delco distributor and then have a self-contained electronic distributor. That would be basically the same as that Pertronix billet distributor. Or spend the extra $ on the Pertronix billet model - up to you.

I have the PerTronix D16700 Flamethrower in my 1972 304. Battled points in a "wet" environment for years and since the PerTronix has been installed, it has been perfect.

I put a Pertronix conversion in my Delco after I had a set of points close up on me at an inopportune time. That was 15 years ago and no problems since.
