So it looks like you got the explorer package with that one, was that your plan? I don't know much about broncos, but I think in the pickup trucks the explorer package was an upgrade, and is pretty rare. I almost bought a '72 f250 explorer, totally regret not getting that thing.

it's no fc, that's for sure. but a bronco is pretty sweet in it's own way. at 17,500.00, I'm thinking you still got a decent deal. you know what you're doing, and you do most of your own work, it's a great investment. I just googled 72 ford bronco for sale, and sure as heck cant afford one. cheapest one I seen was 54k.

where did yours come from/where did you find it?

Great score! I have always liked old Broncos but the price has always scared me away. I'll be watching this thread!

Actually there was no plan, Gary wanted a Bronco and it being the "explorer" package was pure conincedence. And I really don't know much about Broncos other than looking like a bigger jeep! lol It's bigger than I thought, kind of big~little.
I will dive into this link as soon as I finish typing here~ :bananatool:
Well, on the title is shows it came from Willis Texas, not far from me. I think the guy I bought it from bought it as a turn around to make some money, which I'm sure he did. The Bronco where I bought it was in Dickinson, Tx. 1.5 hours away, not bad. That was a factor cause I didn't want to drive 6-8 hours to buy something! lol

Well, this one is a '72 Bronco and says the "Explorer" model, but I don't really much of "models" which may have been offered.

Not much has happened, but have removed the side steps, kids and grandkids are here for a few days~ doing the grandparent thing;)

I think the green that you're talking about is "boxwood green". That's my favorite Ford color ever. Dne, I think you should paint this Bronco that color.....

Also, "From 1968 to 1986, Ford offered a unique trim package on their F-100 pickup trucks, as well as some Bronco and Ranchero models. Known as the “Explorer Special,” the actual features of this trim would vary heavily from year to year, but the marketing tactic remained unchanged at its core. The idea was to combine visually attractive styling with a bundle of popular features to make a widely-appealing truck, and then offer substantial discounts to get them selling like hotcakes. The enhanced styling and flashy trim even led Ford to refer to them as “luxury pickups.”"

While pondering the idea of an AOD trans, I can't dismiss the transmission in it. I've never driven it, but really don't know if this is the transmission which came with it  I doubt it.

The transmission tunnel has been extended (or maybe it hasn't) out to the drivers side a bit to put in this shifter, so it must have been some sort of "upgrade". I'll have to look into what the original trans looks like.

The tires are huge, to me they're huge 33 x somethings, so I don't know if the transmission had been replaced to accomodate the large tires for mudding and need to find a way to see if the trans would do a decent road speed. Makes me think I need to get tires on it and actually drive it even just for a few hundred feet, but has no brakes, but I could replace all wheel cylinders and flex brake lines as they're shot. Just have some brakes to "stop" or at least slow down.

perhaps the transmission is the correct one~ according to this googled thing.

That looks like the original Ford top-loader 3-spd transmission. Most likely it was originally a column shift that's been converted to floor shift.

    This.
Back in the 80's I worked in a speed shop& sold lots of the Hurst conversion kits-they included that floor pan extension piece too. Definitely an upgrade over the sloppy column shift, unless you're doing a full restoration.
The 3 holes in your dash are for a factory Ford radio, the faceplate is totally separate from the radio & just the control shafts poke through the dash.

Thank you, I was wondering why it was three holes for a radio! I was thinking to locate an original radio just for looks and put another radio in a hidden place. just a thought;)

Hey Dne, I think retrosound makes a "modern" replacement for that radio, just FYI. A bit expensive, but you get the look, but also bluetooth connectivity.

Edit: looks like maybe not exact, but pretty close.

I've kind of been busy on other things, like my '67 Mustang, finally got that straightned out~ it was running like the transmission was bad, but wound up being the edelbrock carburetor was bad. It was the carb that was on it during the flood, just thought I could save it, guess I thought wrong. But now it's running super great! I can enjoy it now;)

Then I was lowering the Bronco on the Maxjax, then all of a sudden the Bronco was coming down too quickly on one side, scary! It was pouring fluid from the hydraulic cylinder. I took it a part and found the main seal was obliterated and so was the other side as well! I had a couple seals I had bought from Maxjax and installed them and it's back to working just fine.
So I called Maxjax to order more seals to keep on hand, they said they no longer stock the seals and that they are only selling replacement hydrualic cylinders at 195 bucks per cylinder. I informed the lady that I had bought seals not more than two years ago, nothing wrong with the "hardware", just the seals go bad and need replacing. Again, she said she couldn't help me~ So I'm looking for the seals~ they're relatively easy to install, what a shame!!! If worse comes to worse, I'll purchase a couple rams to have on hand.

    this ram/cylinder is from 2014

obviously after then new seals I installed;)

I have a question, I was thinking to go with an automatic transmission, but I'm thinking just to stay with the floor shift~ having the 33" tires, would I be able to achieve at least 60mph on the roads? Should I look for alternatives? It's just all talk at this point;)
