I have searched but maybe not calling this what it should be. Regarding my 1971 CJ5, at some point the under the seat fuel tank was removed and a rear tank was added (I think, still learning). I don't plan to reinstall a tank under the seat but that has left me with the filler hole open. I'm sure there have been some creative ways to fill that hole or maybe even some type of aftermarket plate to block it off. Know of any?? Any cool ideas I can steal? I can certainly make a plate, bond it and do the body work but wasn't sure if there was a different direction.....

As said 1971 was the first full year of rear tank.

I agree, the factory never installed them with screws- spot welded only.

No ready made solutions, it's gonna have to be home-rolled.

On SSDutch I put a small fresh water tank under the front seat, added a 12V water pump, and put water outlet in the former gas fill indent. Cut off a short piece of hose, added a garden sprayer for a shower.

That gives me a clearer picture, thank you. My wife always has one of those insulated cups when she is out....maybe I will make it into her cup holder!

Mopar project cj66 had that spot filled with air pressure gauge and switch for onboard air system. You might be able to add a chuck as well. If not using a tank you could put a retractable hose real under the seat. OK maybe a bit much but just dreaming....

I hope this project doesn't go down a rabbit hole like that, it's only going to be a simple build

This feature was the main reason I kept the filler neck from my '57 tub when I replaced it with a '70 tub! Such a great use of the space.

I liked finding ways to take advantage of the original body elements. I also:

    - Hinged and added a lock to the snorkel cutout, and put an onboard air outlet and on/off switch behind it.

    - At the middle/bottom of the panel under the tailgate the body has a notch where the original drawbar supports ran. I added a filler plate and put another onboard air outlet, my trailer plug, and a 12v outlet there.
