I thought I had a knob from a Ramsey PTO to offer up as template for a member here to reproduce the knob through 3D printing. I have not found the knob and apparently never will. Is anyone out there willing to help with this endeavor?

Member Jw60 had shown interest in making them for me/us. I was going to send him mine to measure. He really didn't need the knob but I was not comfortable measuring it and just sending him the numbers.

I'm hoping he is still on board with this. It's been a while.

    Bump, I'm still on board

I just need a top and side shot to get close with a thread pitch and count. If someone goes around judging knobs it's there problem but I will edit and get as close as possible.

I'm going to further document the project here as I go:
I've ordered some black material and 10 inserts that covers Dave (4-6), Art (1), and a prototype that might appear at Ken's door for helping (1). Tim I don't have an easy way to send one to you for free but I can save one for you (1) and I'm gonna destroy the last for quality purposes (1)

From here I will take an interest que and those not listed above for the first run can expect about $2-3 each plus shipping depending on how far material goes, and a little for machine consumables (glue sock nozzle etc) but I am not taking orders at this time and if I do it will be in the member market

    materials ordered:

Here is my first test print. The layers are much thicker than the final version and the hole is sized to tap into the plastic. It looks like plastic and I need to test finishing processes to try to get it to match the original material.

Well we have a little hold up here...
These Brass inserts are not as small as I expected compared to the knobs.

I see three options: drill and tap the plastic
Pause each print to insert the insert
    Heli coil

    Gotta sleep on this.

Put the inserts in a lathe and make them smaller. Thats what I would do. Those inserts are probably designed for a more robust application than what is needed here.

That could work Nate. How were they threaded originally, I wonder?

I don’t know about these Bakelite Ramsey knobs but the Bakelite d18 knobs had a thin steel sleeve insert that was knurled on the outside and the insert had a closed end up inside the knob. Cup shaped.
D18 has same threads except it’s a round Bakelite knob having a notable outer raised ring.
The raised ring on these Ramsey knobs is very thin and barely noticeable.
For all practical purposes a D18 shift knob is perfectly functional for the ramsey pto.
Of any pto for that matter.

Almost done printing. I decided I will drill and tap these they are very dense and actually sink in water. If those threads do pull out there will be meat for a recovery.

Fwiw, i printed a round knob and used it on my lock release for the hoist at work. It held up just fine for the 6 months till i left at least. Printed that at 20-50% infill. Printed in a hole for the thread but ended up drilling and tapping it anyways. No issues even with my oily hands. I used pla

10 knobs are threaded and ready to find new homes. I did manage to strip the threads out of an extra knob. It was weird I think I got the tap in just right between threads trying to clean em up then it bottomed out and spun. The rest bottomed out and tried to rip the drill out of my hand.

Are you bringing some along next week? I'll use 4, for sure. Don't want to be a hog with the 6 as I think others are also in want of these.

They are already in the center console.
Without the inserts it is just a matter of printing and tapping more.
