The 300, 340 and 350 are all in the same small block Buick family. 225 * 8/6 = 300, so I wonder if the 300 is the same external dimensions as the 225 except for the length. I understand the 340 is the same dimensions as the 350, though the 340 was available in some hopped-up versions with 10.5:1 CR, 4V, and such. My boss Brian Chuchua put one of these factory hi-po 340s in a Jeepster around 1970; there was an article in Hot Rod about that Jeep, sometime around that time. You could find it if you look, but it may be disappointing. It was only a couple of pages. Good picture of Brian leaning over the engine compartment ...

I had one in a J4000. It had the Buick 350 originally but the original one was shot. I got one from a 70 Skylark and threw it in. Had a 4 speed. That was a great running plow truck for many years for me. I had original Thrush mufflers on it, and it sounded great under load.

Just curious, has anybody tried installing the early V6 to BOP adapter to the front wheel drive bellhousing? While I'm not a fan of the T14, this may be an option for the FWD engine......

A SBC adapted Jeep trans (T90, T15, etc) can use a 1985 S10 bell housing to get there. Some good info here:

Adapting the AMC 2.5L (150cid) Engine to GM Transmissions

The AMC150 uses the metric GM bell pattern

Keeping the Buick 3800 with the most hp/tq, find a Buick Grand National turbo engine. The later intercooled engines are even higher hp. You will need a transmission upgrade if you go this route.
