Great looking garage! Loved your thread so much detail. Gives all of us hope that one day we too can have an awesome jeep garage. I have been watching your neighbor's house change too, small but noticeable stuff.
Now to finish him off... go bag a big bull elk or deer and have it hang for a few cold days under the carport!!

Thanks! It’s been a year and a half since the concrete forms came down. Can’t believe how it’s all starting to come together. Speaking of which...

... it’s a loft! It’s all 2x10 construction with the remainder of the 6x12 off cuts from the carport at each end. They’re big, chunky, and I think they really dictate “this spare” from “that space”. I framed up an air compressor closet as well. I’ll add exterior ventilation for it later on.

The shop is still a mess but it’s much more of a manageable mess now that I can get some stuff off the floor.

    Onward!

About 750ish square feet. I can "wiggle" either Jeep into the center. One powered door. Half bath. This is the most "expansive" picture I have of it. Bathroom is out of frame to the left. I keep the majority of my stuff stored outboard against the wall on shelving over overhead in the rafters, the back corner contains my radio bench. Also not seen far left is my primary work bench, gun stuff storage and my 35 inch TV on the wall hooked to a computer for in shop entertainment. It's also sometimes my escape from the house to "get away", I'll go out in the garage lounge out in a chair and watch youtube or something.

    Ya'll killing me with "small"
Here's mine with two jeeps instead of the wagon.
16' x 18'd is just enough room to lay on the creeper and roll under from 4 sides. Air compressor generator and lawn mower are under the work bench. Special tools and all parts that can go down the basement stairs have done so.

not small compared to Jw60's, but it's not ideal. regular cab s10 for scale:D
the little room in the back is supposed to have woodworking stuff, but the whole place is kind of a mess right now. we just took a wall out, trying to get all the stuff sorted. trying to swap the trans in the s10, not making it any easier. sorry no jeep stuff, has to be outside (if you look close you can see the Jeep starter on the table)

So... I’m not quite as far as I would’ve preferred to be by the end of the year, but here we are. While I should’ve been working on getting the insulation done, I decided that I’m tired of moving around my cabinets. This meant that I needed to get the walls done under the loft which then turned into trimming it all out and building a door for the closet.

Obviously the cabinets need finishing, but they’re set where they’re going to go. Over towards the right of the cabinets is enough space for my toolbox which is great because I’ve been putting on a lot of miles going up the hill to the little shed up by the house to get tools.

Then there’s the closet door. Hands down one of the most useful tools that someone can have is a table saw. When you’ve got a pile of scraps, you need a door, you’re too lazy or cheap to go out and get a door, then you need a table saw.

I decided to finish the walls with OSB because I like to staple things to my walls. There’s a giant plastic tub that I’ve been carrying around for years now that’s labeled “garage art” that will finally find a home. Stay tuned for that. A keen eye will notice that the panels in the cabinet doors are also OSB which was finished in the same way that the cherry wood and MDF was... this was the plan all along. Otherwise I’ll be finishing the rest of the shop with bright white pole barn tin.

Could I have tried harder and gotten further? Yup. At this point I don’t make deadlines. It’ll get done when it gets done and I don’t stress out over it.

Framing is completely done! I’ve had the gable ends to wrap up so everything is flush to the walls.

Still a little more insulation to go but my knees decided that I’d better go do something that doesn’t involve a ladder.

Did you notice the seat? Not sure the manufacturer but it was in the CJ when I got it. I sold it and then it was given back to me because the guy didn’t use it. Anyhow, I've got zero interest in putting it back into the Jeep. I was getting a bunch of stuff from my little shed and I got tired of moving it around. I’m sure it’ll get moved around in the loft but it makes for a nice little spot to chill.

It’ll get a proper base if it retains its garage couch status.

Build a frame for it. I did that to one of my CJ5's old Bestop low back buckets. I picked the less worn out one and builta quick frame from square tubing and use it as a shop chair.

This is inside the house - kinda a workshop but will still do the dirty and loud stuff out in the garage.

As a follow-up to this, the instructions with my bulbs required removal and rewiring of the ballasts. The 4-pack is not currently available, but they still offer the 24-pack. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C52MI8C/ref=dp_prsubs_3 Looking at the instruction manual on that page , it shows the wiring scheme that I followed:

    ledbulbinstructions (600 x 248).jpg

This is strange, because the web site says ballast compatible, and the spec sheet only shows ballast compatible products. JMO - I would remove the ballasts regardless, since they do nothing but use extra juice with this type of bulb. I would not buy these bulbs again without clearing this up with Hyperikon.

If you purchase these, be sure you are getting what you want. These are the hottest color and lumens that I could find, at 6000K and 131 lumens. Hyperikon offers these with a frosted diffuser at fewer lumens and with a cooler light, and supposedly offers single-ended and 2-ended bulbs. Make sure you purchase the bulbs you want.

I put some led replacement tubes in the garage about a year ago, they're notably dimmer already. You buy cheap you get cheap.

    Interesting info-

What's up with the plastic over the insulation? Plastic makes me nervous in walls. Shop is looking great.

    Ah... springtime.

So, where did I leave off? I’m still working on it but getting closer. Been making my own trim and getting going in finishing the interior.

Gonna be bright in here! I’m using bare galvanized steel siding for the ceiling and wainscoting. It’ll be white on the rest of the walls.

    Slow and steady. :waiting:
