Congrats on getting it running, I like to bring long-dormant engines to life.

Thanks, there is something almost magical about stirring something up after so long of a sleep.

In my experience the accelerator pump diaphragms of the YF tend to go bad if they've sat for a long time. I'm guessing that is your acceleration issue.

I would be very surprised if the accelerator pump had not gone bad after sitting so many years, so most likely part of the issue anyway. I suspect whatever gas was left in there turned to varnish and clogged stuff up too. The kit arrived in the mail yesterday.

I had to do some other stuff today so didn't get any time to work on the Jeep. Before I pull the carb I want to run the engine long enough to clear all the oil in the cylinders and see if is still smokes. Last trial run the smoking had gotten a lot better than the first but it still hasn't ran long enough to burn all the Marvel out yet.

Hooked up a boat gas tank and got the Jeep running smooth at idle. I let it run at idle about 15 minutes and it was just as smooth and quiet as any 4cyl Jeep engine I ever heard. Still smokes a bit, but a lot less than before, may still be burning off all that oil I squirted in there. Doesn't have any knocking.

I am going to leave it on the Jeep until I decide about the engine.

Leaning toward leaving the F134 in this Jeep and using the V6 in one of my flat fender Jeeps.

Let it run mostly at idle for 30 minutes today. The smoking is almost gone, and now only smokes a bit at higher RPM, but getting much better. I do like the sound of these F134 engines purring away.

With a mixture of 30wt oil and bottle and a half of Marvel Mystery Oil in the crankcase it maintains a constant 22 lbs oil pressure at idle, and 55 lbs at higher RPM, which is not bad. There is no longer any sign of blow by when oil cap / dip stick removed.

The owner's son said it was parked (42 years ago) due to excessive oil consumption. I think it was just stuck oil rings and the Marvel Oil is helping that.

Pros: Real good body ! Engine, and drive train are probably all good considering the low mileage. Steering is nice and tight. Lights and even the turn signals work.

Cons: It has no brakes, no fuel tank, the radiator hoses are rotten, top one beginning to leak. Most vacuum lines are rotten, and lines to oil filter are suspect. Clutch will not engage and it has about 3-4" free play in pedal. Also has a short in the electrical system which will drain the battery if left connected overnight. The previous owner had installed a "Safety Boost" jump start system, a radio and four cheap gauges. All of the wiring for these things was poorly done. I expect to find my short in some of that crap, or maybe a stuck voltage regulator.

It will get 11" drum brakes all around.

I will create a project thread once I start the real work on this Jeep, and consider my current flare up of J.A.S. to be in remission, at least for now .

My 47 came back home today after a visit to my friend's shop to have some welding done.

Now my 67 has some company.

    Thanks,

I traded a M1 Carbine for that Jeep about a year ago.

I spent all of last Summer correcting the Bubba work, rebuilding the carburetor, axles, steering, suspension and brakes. Haven't done anything to the drive train yet but it runs pretty good and all the gears work. I also replaced the fenders, tailgate, and front bumper, and installed 11" brakes on front.

It was at Don's shop to have the new spring shackles welded on and a patch in the dashboard welded in where Bubba had cut a 9" chunk out of the bottom for something on the passenger side. Don can weld a lot better than I can and did a beautiful job.

Once I install the new wiring harness and gauges it will be ready to drive the rest is just cosmetic work such as recovering the seats which I already have the springs and covers for.

Not a bad trade if you had 1 to spare.
I’m glad that offer never came my way, I probably would’ve taken it and regretted it later!

I just got back from a ride in the old 47. This is the first time I have driven it other than just around the yard.

It was on a private dirt road that goes back to one of my neighbors farms. It is a pretty steep hill on my end. I drove down the hill, drove around my back pasture and across a muddy creek to test out the 4WD. Everything worked fine.

I drove it hard back up that hill scratching gravel all the way.

The road is a little rough and at each bounce I was reminded it is time to put the shocks back on the front and the better cushions I have in the seats, but it pulled that hill with power to spare. I had fun.

I won't have any regrets about the M1.

It has been many years since I shot it, and it was just gathering dust.

It was a very nice M1 Carbine of Winchester manufacture. Probably Korean War era. Dad bought it from the Army depot in the early sixties for $17.00, and it was still in Cosmoline. It had never been fired, but me and my brother sure shot it a lot back in those years.

My interest in such things greatly diminished after dad died 20 years ago. I still have a number of old Winchester lever guns and Colt SAA revolvers, but just don't have any interest in military rifles. The M1 Carbine chambering is too light a round for deer hunting, and too big for small game, so I had no practical use for it.

The guy I traded to is into the Military stuff, and is wanting a 1903 MK 1 I have, but he doesn't have any more Jeeps.

I know this forum is CJ5 stuff, but since I brought up the 47 CJ2A and someone said nice things about it I thought I would provide a few pictures of it from when I put it to actual work earlier today. I used the little Jeep to gather up fallen limbs in my back pasture and haul them to a burn pile. She looked pretty good sitting out in the pasture so I took these pictures.
