Rebuilt the front knuckles and adjusted them with the ole fish weighing scale. I tried really hard to source all USA made bearings and was pretty successful in ding so for most of my parts. It does take searching and as usual it always cost more, but when you are doing this much work you want the best you can get.

Then I moved to the rear axel and installed the seals, bearings and brakes. This was more straightforward than the front and things went as planned. Had to throw in a pic of the newly painted oil filter. Who doesn’t love that orange color. Nothing more classic than this.

Around the same time as this I started cleaning the engine up and replacing parts and pieces on it that were worn out or rotted. I had pulled it from the frame earlier And mounted it to a engine stand I got from Harbor Freight. It worked perfect and can’t say anything bad about it. The engine only had 28000 on it and ran great when I started the rebuild so no major work was done on the internals. Had the carb and fuel pump rebuilt and changed gaskets and seals and spark plug wires for the heck of it.

Also around this time I broke down the Warn 3 ring hubs for cleaning and painting. I also changed the gaskets and regressed before installing them. It was a fun project and really made the front axel come alive so to speak.

Here is the engine after paint and new gaskets. Also installed carb, fuel pump and put the sticker on the air cleaner.

Here is the transmission after being installed. This was not the easiest part of this build. I’ve done it before, but don’t remember it being this tricky. Actually had to break it apart a couple of times for various reasons. This is when I am reminded to read the shop manual before I do things like this.

These are my seats when they came back from getting rebuilt. They did a good job and it is very close to the original. The original seats were two tone (black, Indian ceramic) but I went all black as I was afraid I couldn’t match the Indian ceramic color. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Here are some of my body parts after I got them back from the painter a few weeks ago He is still working on the tub and says I can pick it up next week. If I had to do it all over again I would not use this person. Took way way way too long and the quality is just not there. It was a good price, but like the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. In the grand scheme of things it’s not that big of deal though as I never intended this to be a show Jeep that I never drive. Just wanted a mechanically sound Jeep that looked good. I think it will be that when I finish. Still got a ways to go, but I’ll get there.

I’m looking for a set of 16 inch wheels for my Jeep. I have a set of 15 inch that came with the Jeep plus a spare. Prolly sell them later on. I’ve looked at US Wheels and they make something close to the original wheel. Anybody know where I can find some USA made steel wheels or a nice set of used 16 inch original wheels.

Good morning, your project looks great, try willysjeepparts.com they are reproducing the 16 x 41/2 Jeep wheels DOT. approved. With or without tubes. Best of luck with your project.

Look at the post in the "Roxor" forum I just put up in the thread on Roxor wheels. We were given a set of Roxor takeoff wheels, I've posted pictures on our CJ6 and the Tux. Jack

Got my tub back from the paint shop. I rolled in a Rustoleum bed liner. I think it will be good enough for my uses.

Do you have the brand/code of the paint you used for both the Indian Ceramic and the white grille? I would ultimately like to paint my Tux and want nothing other than what it was
