Finish Grinding Disc Recommendation

What discs are you using for finish grinding?

 

120 grit flap disks from benchmark.

 

Agree with flap disks. However, if you're talking about cleaning up random paint, bondo, and skuz from a panel after grinding, then paint stripping disks can't be beat. edit: sidenote- I'm annoyed now, because I ordered a 5 pack of these just a few days ago for $30. A 10-pack wasn't available, or I just didn't see it. On benchmark's site, they had a 10-pack, but with shipping it came out to $50!

 

for general finish grinding , bondo and paint or just cleaning sheet metal I use 3m flex discs in 36 grit. flap discs for finishing welds. Hard grinding discs for thicker steel and weld prep.

 

A lot of times to take down the high parts of the weld I will use a thicker cut-off wheel its edge to take it down some. I like to use the Roloc grinding and Roloc Scotch Brite discs after that. I have used the flap discs for welds on thicker steel and liked the finish it left. Too heavy grinding on the metal for too long can warp the metal also. The majority of problems I have had to fix from welding in patch panels was because I was too impatient and tried to move too fast.
