When I was watching videos from the Epic Colorado trip last year I noticed how bad my Jeep was squeaking on the trails. Watching the videos I noticed that it was worse much on day 4 than on day 1, I hadn’t noticed at the time. I found that ALL of the fender bolts were loose (not falling off loose but not tight). After I tightened all the bolts the squeak was better but still there. I isolated the squeak to the driver’s fender. The driver’s fender does not have the original paint (like the rest of the Jeep), it has been replaced/repaired and repainted by PO.

The squeak got personal to me. I searched for info on fender squeaks which lead me to fender welting. I didn’t like the idea of plastic welting with a bead showing at the seam. I kept looking and I found discussions about using friction tape or hockey stick tape as welting. Then I thought of the roll of Gorilla Tape sitting on my work bench.

Last night I pulled the driver’s fender loose. I put a strip of Gorilla Tape on the mating surface of fender’s flange and a second on the tub. I also taped the fender to grill mounting flange and another strip on the grill surface.

Before the Gorilla Tape application I could make the fender squeak when stepping on the bumper or twisting/pushing the grill. When I finished last night, it was after midnight and it was still raining so no test drive. But I could not make it squeak when flexing the suspension or the fender or grill. Test drive will be today or tomorrow but I am hoping the fender squeak is gone.:bananatool:
Sorry I didn't think about pics until I was washing up.

    I so understand this.
It’s exactly why I built this last Jeep’s body and cage entirely suspended on rubber bushings. Death to squeaks and rattles!!!

I have posted many photos about installing a hoist to move my hard top.
The hard-top in on the Jeep, but not the doors.
I took profit of the coming of gardeners for big garden work, they were 6...
I asked to 2 of them to help me getting the doors from the barn, and put them on the Jeep.
Doors are heavy, and alone, I moved them and got some pain in my back!
    :n:
I don't want to visit a doctor, because it is a good trick to get the Covid, so I avoid bad movements.
The doors were in place in 5 minutes, these young guys are good at work.
We use a gardening company working for cities, they have good trucks and all big equipment, in 2 days all is done, mainly hays and trees.
They also work at the local jail, to clean around the fences, and inmates are insulting them all the time!
That is stupid. I just learned that this jail (around 600 inmates) received forbidden drugs delivered by drone. Progress everyday.
    That's for anecdote.:D
Then I checked the lock on driver side. No good.
I took it off, and saw that it was a clever simple system.
I rebuilt it with grease, repaired a little bit, and it is OK.
Pictures with the doors, the hoist in position, and the lock.

Bling! Installed my new chrome ( all I could find ) oil pan and I don't know 3rd? gasket. Cleaned everything spotless, " high performance" rubber coated gasket and black rtv. If this doesn't work look in the classified for the part out...Also installed the correct ps caliper as I've had a drivers on there from day 1 due to incorrect shipping. Too late to return when I found out. Bleed the brakes tomorrow. Might be 12" of snow coming, hope I get to play :bananatool:

I got some bling today also from UPS. I bought a New 7" Chrome Brake booster for $25.00 some guy got it and realised he didn't have enough vacuum because of his camshaft to use it. Master cylinder is mid 80"s Ford F150 and Clutch Master and slave cyl are Chevy Astro Van. I didn't know the Astro van was sold with a 4.3 V6 and stick trans. They were the cheapest matched set I could find. $14.00 for the Master, and $12.00 for the slave with free shipping on fleebay.
I did manage to cut out a cardboard patter for a new fire wall mount and transfered it to a sheet of 12 Gauge steel. Kind of hard to cut without power.

The 5/16” steel cable on my winch had been showing some wear, it had a couple frayed spots and multiple kinks that concerned me. I found a 165’ synthetic rope for the right price to replace it finally. I like the ruggedness of steel cable but the light weight and ease of handling the synthetic rope is hard to pass up.

I quickly found out that the new rope was much thicker than the cable and there was no way to fit all 165’ onto my winch drum. So I had to cut it down to about 135’ feet to get it to fit.

Drum roll please..... anyone see the mushroom cloud? It leaks...sigh I can't believe it's the pan. Here's what I know: doesn't leak when cold. Almost doesn't drip at idle. Steady drip when revved up. The pan and rear seal are not under pressure. I'm down to thinking cam plug or oil gallery plugs at the back of the block. Only one way to tell....oh bled the brakes and still don't have fronts. Got another master at flaps, bench bled and installed I'll try bleeding again tomorrow.
Anyone want to buy a POS uh sorry " nicely built custom flatty , needs few things"? Like a witch doctor or something :banghead:

Nah man don't give up. These Jeeps can be cantankerous. I consider mine to be the Exxon Valdez of Jeeps since everything leaks but I don't mind since it's just anti-rust. ;)

After my recent excursion with the big Jeeps in the rocks of Johnson Valley, I realized I need better coverage under the Jeep. When I bought the Jeep it had a 20 gallon poly tank and corresponding slider under it. That big tank hung lower than the shackles so I pulled it and put in a stock metal tank. I've been procrastinating modifying the slider and installing it, until today. I cut it down so it fits cleanly under the tank, painted it and reinstalled it.

Last week I cut some 2x3 angle to build rock sliders out of. I did some damage on the trails to my rockers so I had to straighten it out and bolt the sliders over it. Looks good now and should handle the rocks without damage in the future.

I had pulled my MC 2150 carb apart to see what gasket to order from Brennan's Garage for the extreme angle carb kit he offers. This week I had been waiting for the kit to come in before I put the carb back together. But we are taking the Jeep out to Lake Havasu next weekend, so I put it together this morning with the old parts. Not 30 minutes later the postman rolls up at the end of my driveway and motions me to his vehicle to get my mail... which included the carb kit from Brennan's Garage. Just my luck. I quickly pulled it apart again and installed the kit. Now to climb some hills and see if it loads up and dies anymore while the nose is in the air.

Besides the carb kit, I decided a hand throttle would help me in a few crawling situations where I need 3 feet. I looked online and eventually ordered one for a later model Jeep that's supposed to clamp on the shifter. The clamp was too big for my T14 shifter, and I wasn't sure I would like it on the shifter anyway, so I clamped the hand throttle to the steering column.

After buttoning everything up I put the windshield down and drove over to the gas station to fill it up. It's about 55 degrees and sunny today so it was a brisk but pleasant drive. I played around with the hand throttle. I'm happy with the location of it and it does what I want. The throttle clicks between each setting so I could use it for a trail cruise control when the trail warrants it. Out at Havasu the trails can get so bumpy my foot bounces on the gas pedal so I may try it in those situations.

I impulse ordered some diff sliders the other day but they haven't arrived yet. I also want to build some sliders under my spring plates. With only 31's I hang the plates on rocks pretty easily. I'm thinking some sliders across the plates would help them not hang on the rock like they have. I have considered swapping to 33's but when the soft top is on the Jeep the roof bar barely scrapes the garage door as it is. If I was any taller the garage would be off limits.

Hang in there man. Working the bugs out can take a while, but it's part of making a truly great rig.

Managed to get a few things done. There was a small list I completed prior to this that ate up a ton of time. Just a few more small additions and the cage can come back out for sanding, paint, and welding, again.

Interesting, thanks. I'm resigned to the fact I'll have to pull the flywheel to get a good look at this.

    More food for thought:
When I rebuilt my engine I had it neutral balanced. Crank, pistons and rods then the harmonic balancer, pulleys, flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch disk were all taken to zero (or whatever minimum the machine could read.. aka good enough for a jeep)
It didn't leak enough to notice.

When I rebuilt the Transmission I put a new pilot bushing in and had the clutch out to get the old bushing out. I wound up dropping the clutch disk about the 4th time I tried putting everything back together and now the rear main leaks only when the clutch disk spins or basically whenever you can get out and look.

Darn, hate to hear that. The 1st dauntless that I built sealed up great, no problem. It was dry all over. The next one, current one, I am still fighting also. Not a lot of oil, but I still have to keep a diaper under it in the shop or it makes a mess in the floor.
That stinks to have to pull the motor back out. Good luck!

Thanks guys. I had the entire rotating assembly balanced. Indexed the bellhousing and it's well within tolerable spec. I can't fathom changing the rear seal, 3 oil pan gaskets and a new oil pan it leaks at the same rate. Gotta be something else. Good thing I got really good at pulling the T18 during the clutch issues...
