A four cylinder Detroit with no turbo in a Gmc with a five speed with two speed rear would go anywhere just not fast.

Yeah, I used to work for a Detroit distributor, and I never heard this terminology either. Just Cylinder Count, - or v, and displacement per Cylinder, with the T designation if it was turbo'ed.

Had an 8V71 in a pumper. Straight 5 speed. 4” flex pipe exhaust. I think there were only 4 of us that could driver that thing. I loved it.

I remember a firehouse in Norfolk, Va basically on the ODU college campus that had a truck with an 8v-71 or 8v-92 engine with an open, unmuffled exhaust. They didn't need a siren. The noise that truck made moved everyone out of the way. It could easily be heard 10 blocks away.
The pipes were at least 6", right out under the side running board.

My favorite of the ones I had was the 6-71. They would start in the cold really well. I had one with a straight 7 speed and another with a 5 speed and a splitter. They ran well with a load behind them. I wish I kept the Fleetstar. I love the DT466 IH engine but I had one at 210 hp that could never keep up with the 6-71 powered Fleetstar.

Alright, The first diesel truck I ever drove was when I was 11. It was a 68-70 GMC with a detroit 8-71. The cab was just like this. 13 speed with a 2 speed rear

My uncle taught me how to drive this thing. It was a potato body that we also used for grain, so it was longer. This truck is still on the farm. but we have more modern ones.

Yes, I was talking horsepower. I've heard people refer to them both ways, hp or configuration.
