    New to me 1969 CJ5
    - Buick V6
    -3 Speed
    -d18
-Full fiberglass tub, fenders and hood

    The good:
Restored around 10+ years ago (clean on the top side engine depart is clean)
    Frame frame is mostly solid
Buick V6 (after some adjustment seems to run great)
    Advanced adapters Chain driven clutch
    great seats

    The Bad
It leaks a lot (need to reseal anything on the bottom side)
2 wholes in the frame where the rear bump stops where
    Plastidip paint job
    Needed a new starter
    needs a top
only the speedo works for gauges
    drum brakes

    The plan:
-4 wheel disc brakes using Brennan's Garage Trackick front brakes and EEbrake rear.
-Scrape plasty dip from body fix some imperfections and paint
-fix frame and add bump stops
    -reseal everything with Great stuff
    -tune motor
    -get gauges
    -find a cheap top
-fluid film the frame(I am coastal and the salt air reeks havoc on all things metal) [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

The other gauges next to your speedometer.. need to be grounded... usually to the frame, through the dash... but with the body being fiberglass... you might just need to give them a good ground... same with your gas gauge sending unit on your gas tank... it needs a good ground to the frame......

@1928 Chevy CJ5 thanks for the tip. I haven't started chasing wires yet.

Made a little head way this week.
Fluid filmed 90% of the frame. (Will get the rest once I do the brakes and take the wheels off but at least all the crawling around is over) I am really happy with how it brushed on. [IMG]

Also started having an issue of stalling. Not sure if it's bad gas or what. The Jeep came with 5 spark plugs so I changed those and they looked pretty fouled(think it was running rich) so I changed those cap and rotor looked pretty crusty too so I am going to order one up.
Lastly I picked a color (going to paint it with ACE rust stop paint same as Rustolium except you can pick any color and have it mixed)

The hood is paint ready. We will see how Gentleman's Gray looks this weekend.

I think the links are fixed. You should be able too see photos now

I got my brake brackets painted and start on the hood for paint. This is 1 coat using a roller and thinned out rustolium. [IMG] [IMG]

    A few updates.
Hood is done and I am loving the color. I would say its a 5mph paint job I'm not looking forward to the stripping and prepping the rest of the tub and fenders but thats going on hold for a little bit.

I started on the brake conversion and will do a full write up in the tech section once I am done. The hubs came off easy but the drums are swaged so I need to go get whole saw to take them off.

    Small updates:
I patched the frame last week. I thought it was really funny that this one spot of frame had bondo on the back side. [IMG] [IMG]
I ended up cutting out the rust and plating with 1/8th inch plate. No more rot in the frame and with the whole thing fluid filmed it should be good for another 50 years.

Yes as long as it is applied annually. For salty areas I don't think there is a better solution than oil undercoats. I have seen POR trap in moisture and regular paints brake down. If you were starting with a brand new frame with absolutely no sign of scaling or rust I might have a different opinion but for something thats already seen some abuse this stuff works great.

I just noticed I lost most of my early pictures. Bummer but it looks like I have that solved. I have been plugging away on the Jeep and was also fortunate enough to pick up a few more axles for options. Here is what I have and what I am grappling with.
    3.73 open stock dana 27 / 2 piece dana 44
    4.88 lock right dana 27 / 2 piece dana 44 (both locked)
4.27 1971 dana 44 with 1 piece shafts. (Hopefully with a limited slip) I need to open this up tonight.

I have been looking at gear calculators for 2 days now trying to figure out what to do. What I do know is I am going to run a lock right in the front either way. On the rear I would prefer to run a limited slip and may try to sell or trade the lock right for a trutrac.

What I don't know is what gear to run. 3.73 will be better on the road which is going to be 80% of the Jeeps life and would be more comfortable for those short flirts with 55mph. 4:88s would be better off road and probably in traffic as it would make slow roles in second no problem but it will be screaming when I hit 55mph. An overdrive seams like a good solution but not super easy to find inexpensively. The Jeep will have 4 wheel disc brakes and tight steering so 55-65mph should be a reasonable thing to obtain.

What would you guys do? (I think 4.88 is the call but I was pretty psyched before for a more street able cj5.)[IMG]
