It sounds to me as a most definitely a rotational sound . If you push the clutch in , while in third gear, does it Lessen , or possibly stop ?

Oh Yeah .... the front drive shaft does not spin unless it's not in neutral . Your TC shifter position alows the front shaft to engage or disengage. You could have worn TC linkage detant balls & springs , causing your TC to be in 4W high , & your sloppy front shaft to be the cause.
Remove the front shaft & run it again. That's a start, cause it needs rebuilding any way.

The front shaft will continue to spin unless you have selective hubs in the front, and they are "unlocked." The wheels turning will still drive the axle and shaft otherwise, although without any significant force in them.

To tell the difference between four-wheel and two wheel drive, jack one front wheel and try to turn it. If the transmission is in gear and the transfer in four-wheel, it will not turn.

More commonly, four wheel drive will act hinky on a paved surface when turning tightly.

UPDATE: just pulled the front drive shaft and took it up and down the street. Still the same. Didn’t change anything. Still same sound.

so next could be? I put in a new TC mount. So everything is nice and tight. The only thing that wasn’t was the front drive shaft which I took off. It definitely sounds like it’s coming from the transmission/ T case area. Is there a gear or something that can come lose and slap back and fourth against the case internally?

    stumped here

Does your parking brake on the back of the transfer case work properly? Try to lightly apply a bit of drag to see if that affects the noise. The photo in post #1337 showing the T/C lever looks like it might be in the 4WD postion. The way I have my linkage adjusted, my knob is a lot closer to the firewall when in 2WD. Your position is about where my 4WD is.

The E-brake is not active or working. I can try to move it forward again later today. I push the knob as far forward as I can. But still staying where it’s at

I've had a loose brake activating arm behind the transfer make a baffling mechanical noise until I replaced the retracting spring from the frame crossmember to the arm.

It still could be one of those back seat foot rests that someone modified. Any holes match on inside of fender?
