Front Brake Line Protector

    I’m usually posting on the early CJ5 forum here but since I’m getting g to know my Frankie is on a flat fender frame most likely maybe someone can help.

    only one side had the brake line protector thingy on the knuckle. I’m debating getting a second one to match or just take off the other one. I already bought rubber brake lines and have made the main metal line across the axle.

    Anyone have pictures of the protector and brake lines installed?

    or if you have taken them off and did something else I would like to see that too.

    advantages or dis either way?

    idk if this helps or not. The brake line mounts on the thingy so I would retain it.
    [​IMG]sorry... I was looking down from the top and holding a flashlight and the phone. Kinda looks upside down but you can zoom in and see the connections.

    Thank you. Since there was only one on mine the PO just put on a longer rubber line and went right from the cylinder to the axle mount where it connects to metal line. Seems like I’m hearing others do that too and state there is an advantage.

    I’m not savvy enough to think of that. I unbolted what was there and installed the new lines. I think it would work as you describe. On the other hand there may be a reason for the guard to protect the lines as well as mounting the brake lines. :shrug:

    I have s lines on mine. If you change to a rubber hose directly to the wheel cylinder just make sure the rubber hose is long enough for your flex during turns and going over stuff. I haven't seen one without so this is me>:shrug:

    If you do a lot of brush work or down stick/trees you will find these guards worth it. Or at least a help on how to protect for that kind of threat!

    If you remove the existing guard you should put spacers / washers of about the same thickness in place of it to prevent the king pin retainer bolts from extending too far and interfering with the knuckle.

    I replaced all bolts and custom sided them. All good there but yes could be an issue.
