This is supposed to be a factory 225 Dauntless on a dyno making 197hp. I found this posted on Facebook with the hp rating.

Sounds like it’s screaming on the dyno.

I'd guess that has an aftermarket cam, and it looks like a 4bbl. Looks like a stock distributor. You can sure hear the delay winding up due to the heavy flywheel. My guess is that was about 5,000 rpm before they chopped the throttle. Nice pull!

What huge 4bbl, look at how the fuel line goes into the front of it. That hood is basically sitting on top of the float bowl. I could be wrong but I don’t see a 4bbl I see a 2 bbl carb on it and no aluminum intake. I don’t hear a lope to the cam at low speed. In fact the original poster reported 197 hp but if you turn the volume up he says 197-98 and 128 or 148 which I would take to be 197lbft of torque and 128 or 148 on the horsepower.

The two numbers I heard were 128 and 197. If mostly stock, those would make sense (128hp 197 torque). I know other info lists the Dauntless at 160hp, but that is the old SAE "gross" rating (pre-1972). The current 1972-present Net HP rating method lowers the number a fair bit. The mid-seventies odd-fire Buick V6's (231's) were rated at 110 Net Hp as a point of reference.

Cool to see one on a dyno.

i've had mine past 4000+ quite a few times at silver lake in the dunes. 4bbl carb rv cam and some porting and polishing to the heads. i would really hate to see that heavy flywheel come off at that rpm. hell i never heard the valves floating on that dyno as i think it still had a few more rps left in it. it was still climbing in rps even though the throttle was wot before they shut it down.
