Finished welding up my cj7 rear spring frame mounts on my cj5 into a cj6 project front end.. < How'd ya like that? My brain still smells..

Then I pulled the new starter back off and decided to scrub down the old 304 in hopes to paint it that fancy pants blue it had from the factory.

Then I pulled the valve covers and and changed all the valve seals. That sucked....lot's... Did it with the rope method. Shove rope in spark plug hole....Rotate engine and mash rope into valves.. Got real good at it after about the 14th one...

Hopefully I can get the valve covers snuck in the bead blaster at the shop sometime tomorrow.

I've got to decide what belts I'm going to go with. My originals were too UV damaged to consider using but I still have a ways to go before I get to puttnig belts in. Those look nice.

You can get them restored, all new straps and re chromed. There’s a link on here in a thread about seat belts. I’ll find it for you.

Got the 304's valve covers beadblasted and painted the metallic blue/green last night...

Then went to pick the spray can up off the floor and twisted my back...

    I'm feeling it today! :/

Tore the CJ transfer case down (Dana20) had to order a few parts that wont be here for a week or two. Ill start cleaning it up today but it was a big greaseball when i pulled it out.

I also replaced the XJs transfercase Output seal. Twice. First time i must have warped it a bit driving it in and it dumped a half quart of ATF in 20 miles. Pulled the extension housing and put the new one in using the press. Much better. Good thing its a 30 minute job including finding tools my wife moved

I got to use the winch today, :bananatool: It's first time under load

I'm removing the engine and tranny from a 94 Roadmaster for a friend. I needed to get underneath to remove the drive shaft, cut the exhaust, and cut the cross member for the trans. So I attached a chain to the frame, threw it over to the top, took the Jeep and winched the car to a 45 deg angle, removed everything and set it back down.

While doing this I again noticed the power steering box leaking. :steamed: But I remembered I saved the P/S box off my 76 Wagoneer. So that will be my next project.

    Jay :coffee:

Took the dogs out for a run with the Jeep again but this time from the passenger seat. My wife drove the Jeep for the first time. She seemed to like it, but I don't think she's going to start driving it instead of the Xterra any time soon.

Painted the the old 304 the fancy pants blue green it was stock. Installed my bead blasted and painted valve covers. But before I had to install new push rods in the right bank. (Don't ask..super dumb move when installing the valve seals...) Ran the clutch line from the master to the slave and painted the water pump.

Bead Blasted both the drivers and passengers seat brackets. Need to order seats and tack up some holes in the seat bracket bars.. Got some great measurements from fellow earlycj5 forum members to piece them back together.

Off to the hardware store in the am to get a chrome water pipe for the fillneck for the AMC 304.

It was a full day even though I only had a half of a day to work on it.. Now for a nightcap so I can sleep... My Birthday is tomorrow...er today..... What did you all get me? A day of work on the jeep? Well that's fine I guess!

Went through the PTO. Bolted it up and refilled the transmission. Exhaust needs sorted out on drivers side again, fuel filter needs relocated...

Went for Sunday drive to take a picture for the "Then And Now" thread: Then And Now

While we were out and about, we decided to stop at the old Johnson Cemetery. It's essentually abandoned and in the middle of farm fields. It was a tangled thicket until volunteers started to clean it up a couple years ago. The last person buried there was in 1982. The last person before him was in the 1940s. Really neat old place with some very old and interesting tombstones including a "Woodmen of the World" tombstone.

Fall/Autumn is now. And this is true because that was our last nice day... Cold weather and rain during at least a week, not good for the Jeep.
I bought her a new nice tarpaulin, and back in the barn for cars.
And I closed the barn door, there is a space for swallows, they are still here, but very soon they will cross the Mediterranean Sea for their winter season.
Today, we made our last trip with the Jeep in the sun, going to the farm where they produce noodles, some local food shopping.
And back through the small tracks, the country side is plenty of some group of houses, hidden in woods, old farms around a pond... and sometimes a large old house, mini castle, in good or bad condition.

I bought the '71 Cj5 earlier this year to build as a wheeling rig because the '69 is too original. It currently has a Buick 350 in it and ran "fine" when I bought it but didn't really seem to have any more power then the Dauntless in the other Jeep.

Lately it's been getting really hard to start and loosing even more power. I finally installed a Pertronix electronic ignition/coil and adjusted the timing. The points were definitely cratered and I think the timing was off.

Holy cow what a difference! Now it starts right up and goes sideways on the gravel driveway when you think about the throttle. What an improvement!

Properly adjusted new points would probably have the same effect, but I'm glad to be rid of that maintenance issue. The vacuum advance diaphragm is just a big air leak, so I've capped it off at the carb until the new one shows up.

I have checked on the map where you live, it is useful to have a powerful engine, it is a nice place, mountains, etc... I suppose that winters are cold and you need the hard top.

Yes, lots of hills around here, but a v6 is really plenty of power. The 350 in the jeep will be swapped back to a V6 when I have time work work on it.

I have a hard top on the '69 and a soft top on the '71 and I don't notice much temperature difference inside in the winter time.
