Thanks for the input. I just ran down and checked while I still have the wheels off, and I guess it’s on the high side. With the radius arm setup, it’s susceptible to caster change with ride height, and I haven’t checked it since the weight of the winch and bumper have dropped the front end about an inch. Currently it’s sitting at 7° measured off the top kingpin and 6.5° off the bottom.

    Hold on a sec.

I’m unloading the tires and found the rest of the weights. o_O

I thought that was fishy! I’d never seen tires that required so little weights! I feel better now.

Did it still have death wobble after balancing?

I just got them mounted, and the RV is torn apart and parked outside the shop in the way. I’ll post an update after I test it, but I’m going to predict the balancing will have fixed it. They took a ton of weights!

To keep the outside of the wheels looking clean and undamaged. The stick-on weights are the “outside” weights, and the clamp-on weights are the inside weights.

I assumed the outside just didn’t need any weights because when I dropped them off, he asked me if I wanted outside weights or stick-ons. I told him it didn’t matter, I don’t mind the traditional weights. I guess they couldn’t bring themselves to do it!

I never use hammer on weights with aluminum wheels unless the brake caliper will hit them. It looks better and when dealing with expensive wheels you don’t want to take a chance damaging them.

Man I would have loved it if the shop had used the stick on weights back when I had aluminum wheels.

I started picking at the roof seams with a puffy knife. I’m sorry/glad I did. Lots of hidden uglies. Now I’m on a tear to get it all sealed up before potential rain on Friday/Saturday.

One thing mine has that’s nice is an emergency start. Just a momentary on switch wired to a Ford solenoid. Cable from the coach battery to the solenoid then from the solenoid to the truck battery. If the truck battery dies you push the switch and start the truck. Of course if your coach battery is dead you’re screwed. It saved the bacon a couple of times.

The bikini top fits well enough until I get the ambition and funds to make one. I need to get two snaps to affix to the windshield frame for the corners of the top, so they aren’t flappin in the breeze.

It took quite a bit of work to make these “universal” wipers fit this application. I had to follow the instructions to change the sweep angle from the default 80° to the other option, 110°, and in doing that, it changed the park location from the left to the right, so I had to again follow the instructions to change that too. The arm length is adjustable, but they were still about 3” too long, so I had to cut the arms off and shorten them. Nothing is easy. They are perfect now, and they seem to be nice quality units, and they use common, modern wiper blades. Everything is stainless or aluminum. I’ll get them wired up tomorrow.

Verdict is in. Balancing the tires took care of any and all issues. I just took it out on a beat-fest, and it should be illegal to be so fun to drive something.
:bananatool: It thrives on being driven hard. The tires were howling around some of the turns. :sneak:

But now my alternator isn’t getting energized, and my right speaker sounds like crap.

So is ever terrifying - for just one split second even - to think you are screaming down the road in something of entirely your own creation?

None whatsoever. I know every part inside and out, I know what every noise is, what weaknesses there might be, what it’s limits should be. It’s a higher level of confidence than I’ve ever felt in a vehicle.

It is, however, terrifying screaming down the road with my family in a giant RV that I have zero idea who created it and what type of maintenance it had. That bad U-joint doesn’t instill confidence.

What, furring strips boxed in with paneling doesn't instill confidence? ;) That was one stroke in favor of the Class B - at least it had the steel van shell yet.

    Funny story.

This Jeep’s radio automatically connects to my phone’s Bluetooth and starts playing from my music library every time I put the key in the ignition. The only song I have permanently loaded on my phone is The Chipmunks “Happy Anniversary” that I play for my wife as a joke every year that was only funny to her for maybe the first 5 years of marriage. For me, it has just gotten funnier every year.

I think it’s about to get deleted. I’m starting to figure out why it’s not funny to her anymore.

We do the same thing on birthdays, have to play Cracker "Happy Birthday to Me". IMO, probably not as annoying as the chipmunks
