Hey guys! I have a 1960 CJ5 that I'm setting up as a Farm Jeep. The goal is to have a 540RPM PTO on the back and a 3 point hitch.

I have the PTO on the back of the Jeep and after some digging it appears that it was originally the Ramsey PTO.

Are there any inherent strong points of the the Ramsey PTO over the Spicer PTO? Will one run at a faster RPM? Lastly for now, can you use the PTO while driving or can it only be used with the transfer case in Neutral?

Main thing we want to run is a brush-hog but we also have a small 3PT generator and post hole auger as well for stationary use.

Been there, done that with the brush hog on the back of a jeep. It is a lot of work to steer! I found the jeeps work best with stationary attachments.

Yes, you can use the PTO while driving, that is the purpose of a PTO. There is no advantage from one PTO over another. The rear gear box can be taken apart and the gears swapped around to make it spin faster or slower. 540 is achieved in 1st gear.

Yes. Jeeps pull well compared to a tractor, but the steering radius is far, far, greater.
