Will Fuel Pump W/o Return Line Create Problems With V6

    Have dropped the fuel tank on my 71 CJ5 w/ Dauntless V6 to replace the sending unit. The PO has replaced the fuel pump with just a single outlet line to the carb and no return line to the tank.
    Before I reinstall the tank I’d like to be sure this type of fuel pump will not cause any issues in the future. I plan on capping the return line on the new sending unit and reconnecting the vent lines to the evaporator under the passenger side rear fender. Shouldn’t be any problems with vapor lock as long as the tank is vented properly, right? Need to do this right while the tank is out. Don’t want to have to fight this tank again any time soon.

    I would plumb the return line out to the frame before you button it up.
    I’ve run for 6 years without a fuel return to either tank .... but as of recent I have developed vapor lock issues. I am plumbing return lines now and installing fuel injection.

    Thanks for the response! Was going to leave enough hose to tie on to if needed. If I ever replace the fuel pump it will be with the OEM Type.

    If you drive on The street no problems ...if you wheel it and it's a slow trail a return line will help fuel flash /vapor lock .....the pump can't push vapor I vote yes it makes a difference
