Did you buy it? If not - I have several frames here I'm going to be getting rid of. Possibly even a venting windshield.

Glass section is in a frame that allows it to tilt out forward like the 2A windshields do.

However, 1) I could use a better dash~ i've been staring at it for the past couple days thinking about what to do

If ones not available, I get to test my fab skills~
    [IMG]

Then, my tailgate has a 4" hole dead center of it where the PO bolted the spare tire to the tail gate; I'll definitely 2) need a tail gate, I will be re-using the fender "flares", they look factory; fiberglass

Hi you awesome bunch of guys

I got to the dash an hour ago, decided to cut out the gaudy and put in new metal. The plasma cutter saves the day again! I love that thing! I was thinking to use my 4.5" angle cutter. I was worried about the thick epoxy coating, but I ground off just enough and it still sliced through it.

    what was someone thinking :madwife:

Is the map light a common thing in the '68? I'm planning to put in temp/volt/oil and these are in the way. One was for changing from under the seat tank to the rear tank; a push pull thing.

I used this piece of square tubing as my guide for the plasma cutter for the sides, then the top/bottom edges at their own straight edges~ worked great (y)

At this point, it just became tooooooo HOT out there, so I came into the house to report ;) :bananatool: and a :coffee:break :D

I would be scared that thin dash metal would warp with so much welding, but you seem very capable. I'm interested to see how this turns out. My dash has the same problem. Somebody cut holes in it.

Hi Steve, I know what you mean, but the 18 gauge panel is pretty tough. Doing the Dit-dot welding keeps the heat down, and a wet rag after a tack or dissipates the heat. I'm sure there will be some dolly work, and sure there will be filler;)

Nice work Dne! Somewhere back in the posts you mentioned sound deadening and insulation. Do it! Towing the camper or even just driving Farm Jeep Willy on a 90+ degree day bakes us inside. I will be loading the firewall and transmission tunnel with dynamat or something similar.

Thank you, I was debating on the dynamat~ I'll order it~! I do have front carpet system coming too;) I'll make it to be able to snap and be removable.

Came out better than I expected, just needs a little tappy tappy here and there and some body filler, however there are other holes I need to take care of.
I was thinking to put the three gauges(temp/oil/volt) over those existing holes instead of filling them with weld, then make new holes for the headlights, wiper, and whatever else, the of course a radio has to be in the mix. I may put a nice radio like in my Triumph.
I'm just using the holes as a template, not using that gauge holder.

It might be kind of fun with this Kenwood in it, and like boat speaker hanging from the roll bar~ haven't even looked at roll bars yet.

Dne" looks really good. Nothing wrong with your welding skills or any other skills as far as that goes. Question; on your Triumph it looks like you have A/C controls from Vintage Air. Do you have one of their units installed? If so how do you like it?

Good eye Scott! (y) My '71 Triumph is my makings with a '98 Miata engine, 5 speed transmission and a Nissan differential. The miata had AC but the factory compressor wouldn't fit, so I had to fabricate a bracket for a small Sanden air compressor. This really tested my fabricating skills throughout that build! The Vintage Air controller there was about the only thing I could find for my application, or withing budget. Let me know what you think;)

A link to how I added ac to my triumph

I cut out some magnetic material to figure out where to put stuff. Still not sure~ I'll put the temp gauge center just above the steering column, then adding a vacuum gauge to the cluster.
There's a couple other holes on the left, just not sure what to do there~ I do know the large hole upper left is for the wiper motor wiring, then the oblong hole, then two other holes are~ oh, one was for the change of gas tanks.

the dash will be sublimed, then inner windshield frame also sublime whereas the outfacing frame will be matte black.

I'll play with other ideas tomorrow;)

One thing to look into for sound and heat deadening is lizardskin. I haven't tried it, but apparently there's a type with ceramic microbaloons that is great at dissipating heat, and another that is for sound deadening. It's painted on similar to bedliner.

I saw it on a modern jeep youtube video a while back, and it sounds like the hot rod guys really like it.

Lizardskin is some good stuff - I used it on a buddies build for his Scrambler and it worked really nice.

Had a change of mind, the gauge to the upper right of the speedo is too close as I forgot about the speedo mounting, the vacuum gauge is smaller and can go there. I don't like where the ignition switch and choke are and i'm going to re-locate those. gee, The steering wheel is just mocked in as well as the dash. Also going with the smaller Kenwood radio. I've had it for today~I may change my mind again and again :blah::lol:

I used self adhesive camper top sealer:

    your work is amazing
but I am one of those guys . that like a early dash clean . maybe a grab bar . extra gauges .
    no radio/speaker holes in dash
and just mount it under dash
