I try to "purge" my garage every 3-6 months. If I don't things build up and build up till I have no shelf or table space. May cost me money in the long run when I could have used a part or fastner I threw out but helps me keep my sanity.

I got the new hole for the Moeller 13 inch reed switch gas tank sending unit. Gauge is already mounted under the dash.

Something I found out after I put one of these in my son's Jeep, was the needle bounces all over the place, and just getting in the Jeep caused it the start bouncing. So,.... I decided to put a tube around the sending unit to dampen things.

Then there is the rust issue, looks kinda ok from here

But sux from this side

I will probably spend the rest of today, scraping, wire brushing, and painting.

    I hate rust

I made the economy rear sliders, torqued the u bolts and cut them off. Dumped 5 gal of gas in, huh the gauge came up close to a 1/3. Occasionally Jeep gas gauges do work
Field tested, short road test. I think it's ready for tags.:bananatool: IMG_20200805_163412250~2.jpg

Sure looks likes you're ready for tags. Gotta be a awesome feeling. Man I sure wish I had a field, pasture, or trails nearby to drive on. Suburbs aren't always all their cracked up to be. They're a necessary evil to be within driving distance of work. Good job on your part with your Jeep!

Today my new pivot brackets came in from quadratec. I spent the past month avoiding messing with my originals, as the PO solidly welded a 2x2 spacer to them. It was a full afternoon job just to extricate one of the original brackets, and I wasn't super thrilled with the gouges and divots that resulted.

Once these are mounted, I can finally install the suspension and drivetrain. Progress!

Installed a new steering wheel. Had to use heat and a hammer to get the old one off. Here's half way through the job

Are you replacing it with another stock one or something smaller? I would like a smaller one in mine but haven't looked into what my options are yet.

Yesterday I went to Lowes and picked up some Romex and a wall mount 220 outlet. The plasma cutter wasn't cutting it (heh) on 110 so added a 220 outlet to the south side of the garage. Once I got that in place the Plasma cutter was blasting through that mess of a bumper in no time.

Got the winch mess finally removed from the front of the Jeep leaving a few spots that will need to be cut further down and then flap wheeled. Got the grille and fenders off, then got the dash the rest of the way pulled off. The wiring is such a mess that I think I'm going to bite the bullet and pay for the drop in CJ5 wiring harness from Painless Wiring. I went to look at the body mount bolts and to get some PB Blaster on them when I noticed that one of the previous owners, probably the same one that put the winch on, also welded on the side tube steps but instead of welding them into a blank spot in the frame they decided to weld them into the body mount pockets on the frame. I cussed whoever did that **** for about 5 minutes.

This morning I woke up and tackled the side steps. I cut them about half way with the sawsall then used my breaker bar in the tubes to lever them around till they broke off. 2 of them broke off all the way at the frame giving easy access to the body mount bolts the other 2 broke off outside of the body mount pockets so I'm going to have to melt them out with the plasma cutter. Went ahead and pulled off all the soft top mounting hardware as well while I was in there. I may or may not get out there to do more today. It's supposed to be around 100.

Dirt clod. I'm guessing the Jeep saw some mud in it's past life haha. Both of the redneck sidesteps were filled with sediment.
