If I remember and it's been 10years since I did mine but you need a shift rail out to pull the shifter pill out.

I would take the PTO assembly off of the Overdrive. Then the Overdrive can come off in its stages. Just be careful not to hurt the oil catch on the Overdrive. It's the lifeline for everything.

The PTO case may have internal socket-head bolts mating it to the transfer. If it's a Koenig they are inside behind the five pipe-plugs. Don't lose them inside the case.

As PeteL said, unbolting the PTO from the overdrive adapter comes first, then unbolt the Adapter from the overdrive to get access to the 5 bolts that hold the overdrive onto the transfer case.

Once those 5 bolts are out, the overdrive will slide right out if it is a Saturn or ATV. If it is the older warn design, the bearing on the planetary shaft is a light press fit. You may have to insert a putty knife or then prybar between the overdrive housing and the transfer case to wiggle the assembly out. Then you can remove the internal snap ring and locking plate for access to the nut that holds the main gear to the output shaft of the transmission.

If a late overdrive, it should be a simple 1/2 drive extension to back off the nut (125 ft -lbs), if it's an early unit, the nut may be 6 point 11/16 hex.
I have the original 11/16 hex that came with mine, but when I misplaced it once I just made a new key by cutting 3 inches off an 11/16 hex key , inserting it in the nut and putting an 11/16 socket on the end.

When you slide the unit off the mainshaft, be careful not to drop the needle bearings or thrust washers off the mains shaft into the transfer case or you will have to go fishing.
