That's the way the Dana 20 comes off, seems like that would apply to the large hole 18 as well.

I looked at those but I can’t tell if those will work. I’m still using the stock bell housing and it seems like those might be for something different. If anybody knows if the first one listed on Novak’s site works with the stock bell I’ll get one.

Did you get the d18 off the trans...I remember having to drive it off with some solid blows using a big wood dowel...I think I asked on here first as well as I didn't want to break something.

I did get it off, I used a wooden wedge and lightly tapped it and it came right off (y)

I've completely rebuilt the D18 now even tho it didn't need it. Everything was in really good shape inside but since I had it out and I had the front cap off to figure out my twin stick I decided to just go all the way. Here it is back together, I will degrease it and paint soon.

I went back to my original front cap and I am going to fab up twin sticks similar to what Kyle did on Steve's Jeep.

Picked up an american made throw out bearing and new rubber transmission mount today, my clutch fork is supposed to arrive tomorrow. Should be ready to go back together this week. I built a artsy stand to help me hold the trans in place so I can get it back in, not pretty but effective.

The trick will be getting that under the Jeep, haven't measured yet.

Ordered a Warn winch today which will be here by end of the week. Who knows I may get this thing together and have enough time to drive it a bunch before Rubicon the trip (y).

I posted this in the twin stick help thread but I've pretty much got my twin stick setup dialed, just need to bend up the shifters and weld em on. Want to get it in the Jeep before I bend them up so I make sure they are in the right spot.

And while much of that was going on I kept an eye on my daughter while she changed the oil in her car.

Lifted one side of the Jeep to try and slide trans under.

    So close!!!

A little more jacking and (y)

My wood stand worked great. I got the shaft in and 4 bell housing bolts. I'll try and do the cross member and all the rest of the stuff tomorrow evening. :bananatool:

Nice stand! Looks stable and safe! Good job teaching your daughter life skills. Sounds like a great day to me!

New carburetor made a massive difference in how this thing runs. Although it idles too high though even with the idle screw all the way out and the idle mixture screws almost all the way in. The electric choke seems to stick, if I push the red choke thing down (you can see it in the first pic) the idle drops significantly .

@ITLKSEZ mentioned in my twin stick thread the shifters need to be really strong, and I'm glad he mentioned that. The front axle shifter doesn't take much effort but the low/high range shifter... wow! Glad I used 5/8" rod for the shifters.

Somebody needs to put this thing on the front of the Jeep soon... Jeeping is exhausting and I haven't been Jeeping in two years :(

Great work. The other terminal on the choke housing needs to be wired to an ignition hot power source. other wise the choke coil won't pull the choke off. Again nice work. Ron

Thank you, I’ll do that. My old one was never wired either so figured I didn’t need to. I don’t really need a choke in my climate.

If you don't need it loosen the three screws and rotate the choke coil cover until the choke plate is fully open. You may need to open the throttle to see if you went the right direction. If you do this you won't need the power wire. Don't forget to retighten the screws. Ron
