As you can tell on of the POs did to conversion but lacked a little on the mounting. Yes the steel plate fabricated is thick and strong with good welds. I know this also because they used it as a manual box for years so the pressure involved there was great.

but as you can see they used a stack of washers, which I’ve fixed in other areas of this Jeep before, to make up space. I really don’t want to drag this Jeep down to get a real mount welded on but will if no one has another viable option for replacing the washers in a more appropriate way.
    Thoughts?
PS Also in looking at the mount from Advance Adapters here in my home town I notice they do not use a rag joint in their builds. Thoughts on that too would be appreciate.

If the plate is solid and the welds are good, Why not just leave what you have alone. If the washers are an issue, you can easily fab up a solid spacer. You could even weld a (the) steel spacer to the plate.

This seems like the path of least resistance. What you have isn't real pretty but it looks solid.

Screenshot_20200623-062547_Chrome.jpg Here is a picture of a Herms Steering Box adapter plate. It is a well made, respected part, and he simply welds heavy wall tubing on, where your washers are.

Just source a chunk of tube from McMaster-Carr, cut to fit, weld if you want or let it float and it should be fine.
