Today was a good "workin' on the Jeep" day. I had a conference call that I only had to listen on, so i was able to use my 4" sheet metal brake (bench vice, worked great!) To bend some new taillight panels. I was able to use the old base from my harbor freight dust collector, which was 18 gauge. :bananatool:

It isn't a perfect "restoration piece", but it'll be solid and functional and will never be a show Jeep so will work fine for my use.

Painted the hood today, no pix because it looks terrible.:worry:

pre-mixed paint from 20 yrs ago, added fish eye and hardener, also from 1999.
after painting underside, it orange peeled badly, decided to add reducer (also 20 yr old) 1st can had the color of molasses, only small amount splashed into paint, other can was clear. 1st three coats looked acceptable, 4th coat ran, This is also my 1st time using a HVLP gun. Last time I painted (20 yrs ago) i used and paint pot gun.

Since the first three coats were ok, I'm going to try color sanding the runs out tomorrow and see if I can fix this disaster. If I can I'll clear coat, if not, ........ I'll give my son the cup wire wheel and say, show me the metal.

More like “what did your Jeep do to you today “.

Ran out of gas on the way back to work from lunch. Coasted about 1/2 mile to parking lot.

I’ve been using my E-tool until now. I’m sure to “loose traction” again soon.

worked on cleaning up the frame and removing the broken and worn out shackle and pivot brackets. Amazing how many wire wheels, disc grinders, and other items I've gone through to clean this 2A frame. LOL

I'd be interested to hear what shackle brackets you end up with, as I'm about to replace a set on my cj5 frame. Quadratec shows a few different model numbers from omix and crown, but they all look the same.

Pete had the correct pivot bracket for 1 3/4" springs. He may have the shackle bracket too.

Peter De Bella at (631) 874-8660

Brent Mullins jeep parts (979) 690-0203 Also known as armytankguy

Had NOS shackle brackets for 1 3/4: springs but has the wrong pivot bracket for 1 3/4" springs
Brent has a huge inventory. he had USA made pivot brackets that are 2 1/8: wide-----inner dimensions.

stay away from Omix or crown if possible. different model numbers might be due to spring width.

Have spent about 4-5 hours sanding to remove all runs, :censored:There are still more to get it right. But I managed to sand thru the 4 coats and expose the primer. I was hoping to sand and apply clear but thats out the window now. The paint I was using was mixed 20 yrs ago, it looked viable so I used it. It does smell like old rancid oil but, until the last coat that ran, went on fairly well, not a smooth as I remember but adequate.

Now I have 1/2 Gallon of straight paint (yes from 20 yrs ago ). I was thinking of getting fresh reducer and new hardener and putting 1 or 2 more coats of color on and then clear.

    Work... :ninja:

I notice you have no spring hangers on the frame. Are you doing stock width springs or something custom?
