Another piece of the puzzle came in today. Seat covers from a guy on the International Flat Fender Association page on Facebook. Guys name is Ian Liljeblad if your interested. Seats came with the optional front and rear storage pockets. He makes them (out of his garage) for $225.00 shipped in either OD green, black, or tan (he charges less if you don't want the additional storage). But I needed storage for the toddlers sippy cups and snack packs, lol.

Sorry about the poor picture quality, they're being stored in a dark room.

Not alot of progress to report, but I will tell you that I made some serious rookie fabrication mistakes, so things are taking a bit longer, as I'm creating more un-needed work for myself.

Laid a thin coat of paint on the exterior of the tub to ensure the color was exactly what I wanted. Actually thats a lie, I shot a coat on the tub, but then had issues with my air compressor. So now I'm in the process of scuffing it up and prepping it for another shoot. Color I went with was GCI Marine Forest Green #34052 which I liked because it was darker than OD green. I love flat fender Willys that are painted Green, but I didn't want to go with the tradtional OD color.

I got my repop MD Juan tool box in the mail. Plan is to bolt it in place and anticipation for the floor that will need to be replaced next season. So I drilled the holes to mount it, scuffed it and shot it. My thought process was I could use the bolt holes I drilled later to spot weld after the new floor goes in.

    (Rookie mistake #1) [IMG]

What didn't occur to me was to test fit it first. Again, I have no idea what I was thinking at the time. Time in the garage feels rushed due to family stuff. As it turns out, it didn't fit. Back end was too wide by about 1.75 inches, and the front end of the side was off by 1.25 inches. So I'm in the process of surgery.

    (Rookie mistake #2) [IMG]

I tried to section it. So I made a series of cuts to the sides as they could not be square if it was going to fit. Way too much work, as in hindsight, I should have just cut the lip and ground down little bits at time until it was flush, and then just welded the lip back onto it. It was a learning experience for sure.

As for quality for the repop tool box. Its just "okay." Sheet metal thickness is a little light in the a$$, and obviously it doesn't fit without some modification. So something to consider because I kinda wish I didn't chunk my old tool box. But hey, live and learn . . .

On the plus side, I did get some time behind my new plasma cutter. [IMG]

So why am I airing out my dirty laundry and highlighting all my mistakes instead of giving everyone the hollywood version, hiding my mistakes, covering things up and showing you the finished/ more polished product? I have zero ego and these forums over the years have been a teassure trove of information, and I always appreciated peoples honesty so I could learn from their mistakes. That doesn't mean I won't make my own mistakes, but I also found the honesty refreshing as someone trying to learn (and still learning). :study:

More parts and pieces coming together. My future co-pilot wanted to test it out.

BTW the seat covers are from Ian Lileblad. There a slip on style with a velcro inclosure and the price includes new seat cushions. I had him make mine with the optional front zipper pocket and the rear storage pockets. He does a really good job if your interested. He does them in OD Green, Tan, Grey, or Black.

I'll hopefully get the glass, fenders, and hood back on in the next few days, paint is hard but still curing, so I don't want to do too much. I am really liking that dark Forest Green instead of going with the standard OD green. (y)

Not a ton of progress to report. Family moved from Oregon to Florida, so we are still getting settled in. Rig is driving under it's own power, but its currently being held together by bubble gum and ducktape.

Punch List (when I get around to it):

    Engine Rebuild
    Finish the wiring
Get the wheels stripped and painted
    Install the parking brake
