More work done today... dash is getting wrapped up. Will swap out the correct '55 speedo once I can bench test the voltage regulators.

Just check amazon or google for "toggle clamp" and you can find them to do whatever you like.

Still chugging along on the Jeep and have a lot of irons in the fire:

    1. Bench testing my old gauges to figure out exactly how they need to run. I have 2 King-Seely gauges and I am trying to find out exactly how they will run accurately on my Jeep running at 12V. I ordered a few different buck converters that output 4V, 5V, and 6V to bench test the gauges with 12.5-14V input to reflect the Jeep. I can pair them up with a fuel sender on the bench and tweak everything to ensure that the temp and fuel gauges are accurate. gauge1.jpg gauge2.jpg gauge3.jpg

Also decided to dive under the paint to fix the one rusted area on my Jeep... I have a replacement rocker panel and have been putting it off for a while. I had no idea what I was in for as I started removing a sea of bondo over 1/4" thick. Previous owners at some point made some frankenstein body repairs over the top of even older rust. I have some work to do. Spent the day chasing bondo around the Jeep and investigating every suspicious spot on the Jeep.

Lastly, I finally tracked down all the pieces I needed to set up a military fording kit on my Jeep. It's silly, but it'll be fun.

It's such a pain to deal with all that bondo, but weirdly satisfying as well, huh? I think I removed almost 50 lbs of bondo off of my jeep, put there by me over patches that were on top of p.o. patches

Step 1 of the snorkel install is done... surprising how much I had to bend/hammer the military air cleaner mounts to get them to line up with the CJ5 mounting holes. Can be done though. Now I just need to find the tubing I need to run the snorkel out of the engine compartment.

Only took 3 years, but I finally found all the antenna sections I have been looking for (and the handy carrying case)

Took some time to check out the trailer and add some welds to the frame. The whole trailer was originally assembled back in the day with bolts. It has always made me a little nervous, so I went in and welded everything together. I'll probably never notice, but I'll feel better about it, haha.

...and the rust repair is finished... wow what a PITA. It was so much worse than I thought it would be. Ha to rebuild the outer portion of the toolbox, most of the body supports near the rockers, and most of the outer hat channels. We are rust free now though and should be good for another 30 years. rust1.jpg rust5.jpg rust6.jpg rust8.jpg rust9.jpg rust11.jpg

Also got going on the first test fit of the snorkel... Will need to Make a support or two, but it will work and is the closest I could find to the original military snorkel. received_261298471739998.jpeg received_278980539921964.jpeg

Getting ready for more welding tomorrow as the rear rack gets installed and snorkel mounts will be built. Had to test for the aluminum doors with the canvas panels and snorkel to get it all lined up.

What I would give to have a tub as clean as yours! Great work, I look forward to seeing more.

Got the rear rack mounted today and it presented one little problem after another...

    1. Gas cans block tail lights, I'll have to make some little clip on lights for the times I have cans in the rack. Should be easy to plug them into the trailer harness.

    2. Spare tire covers pintle hitch. Tomorrow I'll build a new tire mount that raises it up.

    3. Rack interfered with antenna mount. Fixed with some simple trimming.

    4. No closure mechanism. Found a good way to mount the latch off of the antenna mount. Works great.

Rear rack fabrication is finished and I'm happy with it. Had to move the tire up a little and had to install the mandatory bottle opener. Now it's on to the snorkel.

Not sure why I keep doing this to myself, but rust repair on the outside is finished. Been out here forever hammering high spots, leveling low spots, and got the tub skim coated so it's nice and flat. Started the primer process before new paint goes on... found some holes on the interior of the tub that will need to be dealt with. It feels like I am so close to actually having the Jeep finished, but all the little things that come up are just sapping away my will to live, haha. It's so tempting to just ignore some of them, but I know it will bother me and I'll end up going back to fix them later.

Remember, jeep tubs weren't all that straight from the factory...
