    So after a few hours, I got the right side flat and all oil-cans out of it. The left side is untouched.

    They were about the same when I started. This is the amount of bow that is in the left.

    No doubt, plus IMO, better PPE, and maybe an older pair of Levis, looks like he is using a brand new pair to wax up his pushers :lol:. I'm just guessing since ITLKSEZ makes everything look easy, lead filling would be a walk in the park for him :bow:

    Snoops, I’m glad I’m keeping the illusion alive. I only let you see what I want you to see. :whistle:;)

    I don’t see how lead would be feasible on a flat panel like this hood. The heat required would turn it into an oil can again. Round and bulbous fenders have some integral strength to absorb the expansion without noticing. I feel like I’d be back to square one with this hood if I hit it with that kind of heat.

    Actually the best place to use lead is door and hood edges and door and hood openings...

    As was sorta explained in that video... The disc heats a small section of the metal. That section expands as it heats, then when you cool the area, it shrinks a little bit more than it grew. It’s a slow, tedious process, but it’s pretty amazing what you can do.

    I finally got this hood flat, tight, and stiff. Some of the hat channel needed repaired, the center seam was a mess, and the rear edge buckled under when the collision(?) happened. That probably explains why the hinge was missing.

    It’s ready for a thin coat of filler. You can see every spot I hit it with the shrinking disc.

    I’m going for the “used” look. I’m keeping some of the dents and crack-welds, but I wanted most evidence of the collision to be gone.

    I thought this shot was cool.

    The hood is ready for paint. I spent all weekend filling, block sanding, repeat... I finally got it looking acceptable.

    Today I started on the grill. I wanted to make a shroud to force all the air going through the grill to go through the radiator. It looks a little odd because the radiator is so far offset, but it should do its job. (It’s going to be a SOB to paint.) It took some serious patience to get all these pieces to fit together and clear the headlight buckets and cage. Now I can trim the excesses and weld it up.

    I slept on it and decided to finish the box by adding a bottom. I cut some vents in it to allow water and mud to escape. I pulled it back out to clean up the joints, and I sorta like the removability aspect. After lunch, I might figure out a way to make it removable rather than welding it in. Painting it and rust prevention would be easier, and so would altering it if I go with a different radiator down the road. This cheap POS warped when they welded it, so my shroud is purposefully crooked to match.

    Staying true to form with the rest of this build, something I had planned on taking a few hours has morphed into three solid days.

    I made little stand-offs in the shroud to make room for bolts to be welded to the backside of the grill. The footman loop screws will serve as the mount for top/center.

    I’m glad I took the time to do this. It will be much more convenient in the long run.

    No kidding! :bow: With all the work you've done, when you're finished, you may have to take the "Willys" name off and replace it with your own. I think you've fabbed and built more of this vehicle than Willys ever did.

    :) Not a chance! I worked too hard to keep everything contained in the parameters of the stock body. It’ll wear the willys badges with pride, even if it is just the body and most of the frame that remain.... :D
