I just purchased a Link Arc welder/battery charger. Everything appears to be there but all the wiring to the alternator is disconnected. As I understand it, Link Arc is now Premier Welders, and I have sent them a request for info. The current Premier alternator is different than my alternator. My alternator is made in Los Angeles, Ca , 190 amps, 14 volts, Type 90, Model HR. My alternator has a 2 wire plug in connector (for excitation and idiot light?) 2 large lugs for 6 gauge wire with no label, 2 small lugs for 12 gauge wire with no label and one lug on the back with BA which is probably Battery? Anyone have a Link Arc that can send me a wiring diagram?

I'll see if I can get that info unless someone else is quicker/faster.
My buddy is now currently rebuilding his Link Arc alternator.
Alt wasn't charging, took it off, blah blah blah.
Contacted Premier, no help on selling just an alternator.
Wanted him to buy $1200 complete package; that wasn't happening.
Anyway, pretty sure he has the manual/diagram; he doesn't throw anything away.

Thank you both, I had the schematic from Premier, it is different than my alternator. To make things more interesting, only one of the 5 lugs is labeled. I'd rather not let the magic smoke out, with a wrong connection. That is disappointing news about Premier not selling individual components for their systems, I understand they didn't build the Link Arcs, but there should be some support available for a product line they acquired. Even if it is just a referral source for maintenance parts. JMO.

Buddy confirmed he has the manual...only the alternator rebuild guy has it.
So...maybe by the weekend if no one else chimes in.

Thanks to all, looking forward to getting this thing sorted out. If anyone has any sources for parts please let me know. Nothing wrong with the welder as far as I know, except for a cracked lense on the volt meter. Meters with that DC volt range can be had new, on eBay for $10.

jpflat2a, If your friends' Link Arc gets repaired, do you think you can find out where repair shop got the parts? Or get his contact info and I can contact him?

cj6/442, That was quick! I really like your dash installation of the control module for the welder, I see you used the same mounting screws that were used on my module.

If anyone has a source for parts for these welders, I would appreciate knowing about them. I sent Mechman an email regarding parts, no reply so far. My alternator was made in Los Angeles, and the control module was made in Ft. Worth.???? My concern about parts is due to Premier not being very helpful, and a lack of info about sources for repair/maintenance parts for our welders, for example brushes, regulators etc. If I can put together a list of sources and post it, maybe a sticky?

Thank all of you for your help!

I was dealing with a company called Kodiak Industries out of Gilroy ca. 408 591 1029 www.kodiakinc.com…… that was in 2010. I bought the fancy Premier regulator and kept the stocker for a trail spare . a new bearing and brushes were $30.

My buddy had to have all the windings inside redone.
It started out at a big rig repair shop; they sent it somewhere else to have the windings replace/rewound.
That's all I know at this point.
And the shop has his manual.

jpflat2a, appreciate all you have done, let me know in the manual becomes available.

cj6/442, nice work! Much cleaner than a surface mount that is exposed and subject to damage.
