I figured I’d do a little update, haven’t got too much done in the last couple weeks. Things were pretty busy at work. I have gotten some of the metalwork done, but I’m waiting on a few pieces from classic enterprises to complete the rest. Hopefully once they show up, I can complete the rest pretty quickly.

I don’t have hat channel same as oem, so I am using 2”x1” thin wall rectangular tube to replace it.

1B52BB29-EF66-4E6A-AFCB-625C3BCED646.jpeg Good work, rectangle tube works good! Nice repair on cowl support bottoms and fab on tailgate body mounts. You put your tub on wjrlly jig too, they rock yah..I could not image working on my tub without a whirlly jig. What nightmare that would be.

Yeah, with the amount of metal work I have to do to this tub, I am sure glad I spent the time to make the rotisserie. I can’t imagine doing this without one now.

Well, after waaaaay too much cutting and welding, I finally have the tub back together. I ended up ordering a couple pieces from classic ent, the main crosspiece behind the seats that the floor pans mount too, and one rear corner. Sure glad I did too, very nice pieces. The only downside is the wait time, as I think they are made to order, plus the extra ship time cause I’m in Canada.

I used 1”x2” steel for the floor structure, Took a little time to get it right, but it was worth it.

Being that I’m using an intermediate tub on an early frame, one place I found that was significantly different was the front tub mounts. I had to move them further inward on the tub to clear the headers I’m going to use, so I also took the opportunity to reshape the openings so the looked a bit better

I was debating whether to put the tool box back in, as it needed rust repair too, but decided to fix it and re-install it. I also swapped the direction of the door for easier access.

So now I’m at the point where I’ve got to start deciding on a color to paint this thing. I was originally set on jet set blue, but after seeing dne’s build with the orange paint and how nice it turned out, it’s really got me thinking about orange too.

A couple pictures I poached off the internet of what I’m shooting for.

I think I’m gonna get a pint of each paint and spray some old body panels and see which one I like the best. Decisions decisions:rolleyes:

Yeah, not big on red. Fun fact, I just found out the blue is about half the price of the orange. Something to do with the pigments, as you get closer to red they get more expensive. So far I’m really liking the blue!

I slightly favor the blue, but you can't really go wrong with either one. And if the blue paint is cheaper so much the better. I also like the tires on the blue one. :)

Anything containing red pigment is pricey the pigment is organic and hard to get. Bought some red metallic paint with gold metal flake in it north of 200 per quart.

Did a little bit more cutting and welding today, got the tailgate finished up.. It was pretty badly rusted along the bottom, but was otherwise straight. I had another one that was stamped Willy’s, and wanted to use it, but it was in pretty rough shape. It had its own rust issues, and was bent up a lot more that the green one.

I figured it was a lost cause, so I decided what the heck, might as well try to save it. Was actually easier than I expected seeing how rusted out it was.

Well I had a free evening, so I sprayed the epoxy primer sealer on the tub. I also bought some diy spray in box liner material, ‘Als Liner’, and I’m thinking I’m gonna spray the inside of the tub with it.

I also think I might as well do the bottom of the tub as well while I’m at it and have it on the rotisserie rather than just paint it.

I bolted the transmission covers in except for the very top one, and I think I’ll spray the box liner material over it all to kind of seal it all up. If I ever have reason to remove it in the future, I should just be able to cut it with a knife and take it out, but I doubt there would be any reason to take out.

Thanks! Yeah, I’m really quite happy with the spray booth to. I was trying to come up with a way to set one up in my shop without spending big bucks, when a buddy of mine said he had an old tarp shed frame with no tarp I could have. Was right in my price range!

I have a suck fan which pulls the paint fumes outside through a duct, and I put a good quality furnace filter in the side of it for clean air inlet.

This endura paint I’m spraying is pretty potent stuff, so I splurged and bought an eBay supplied air mask for cheap. It’s pretty much a 3m clone, but works very well.

I also realized as I was posting the last pics up that I forgot to weld in a fill plate on the floor pan now that I’m going with twin stick transfer case shifters. This pan was from this body, which was originally a Dana 20 equipped jeep, so it was a bit different.

So here’s pic of my first time spraying in a box liner product. Overall the product is pretty easy to work with, application takes a bit getting used to the gun to achieve proper texture. It went on pretty decent, overall I’d give my application a 7 out of 10. Glad I started on the bottom first.

Well, after I got home from work today I decided to finish spraying the bedliner in the tub. I masked of the inside, and gave er a good coating. Hides the welded in panels pretty decent. Really happy with how it turned out. Good thing I liked it, cause there’s no going back now.

On the color topic, both look excellent. I'm partial to the blue, but that orange is something you don't see very often. Would make your rig stand out more than the blue.
