How were the brake lines routed on a 58 wagon? On mine, with original single res. Lockhead MC and 11" drums, there are 2 lines (different size) that come out of the junction block with the brake light switch. The small 3/16 line only goes to the front driver side. The larger 1/4 line goes around the front frame member and into a junction block by the front passenger side. One out line goes to the front passenger brake, and the other out line continues down the passenger frame rail and into another junction block at the rear axle - splitting to each rear brake. Is this correct OEM?

Also, as I am swapping in a dual res MC, I was planning on routing one res to the front, and one res to the rear. so its basically going to mean all new brake lines for most of it (which is probably the right way to do it).

So...what is the best way for me to retro-fit in the dual res MC and route brake lines?

Am I thinking this through about right?
I think I can use 3/16 line for both front and rear circuits. I am going to try and disconnect the lines at the junction T-block at the passenger front (4) and connect one MC port circuit directly to the rear line (will have to bend new line around the front). Will then have to basically build an all new front circuit - but that will be part of a new junction block with light switch that I got....arghhh, I wasn't mentally prepared to redo a bunch of brake lines.....

Same situation I ended up with the 3B. I knew I had to replace the front circuit with the axle replacement but I had no intention of messing with either the master cylinder or the rear brake lines-ended up replacing almost all of it. I used the 3/16" copper-nickle and will say that stuff is way easier to work with than steel. You can sort of spool it out as you go and still put the double flares on beneath the vehicle. And since it will not rust, I installed split loom over all of it. I was reluctant to do that with the steel. I'm still using the Imperial Eastman flaring kit I bought in the late 60's.

Just sent Eastwood some money for some new tools including a flaring tool....I find this work tedious and frustrating, but I've never really had the right or high quality tools for it, so hopefully money well spent to make it go well. I was hoping to do some of this work this weekend, but it wasn't worth trying to do without the right tools, so other projects it is....

Just remember to put the flare nuts on the line before you flare it! Voice of experience....

...and slide the nut to the flare-end before you bend.

I'm guilty of the other stuff but I do at least face the right way. :D
